Operation Mincemeat runs at Grand Opera House York from Monday 1 June to Saturday 6 June 2026, with evening performances across the week and additional dates listed in the theatre’s schedule.

What is Operation Mincemeat about?

Operation Mincemeat is a musical comedy based on the real Second World War British deception mission where a small group of intelligence officers plant fake documents on a stolen corpse to trick the Nazis and help change the course of the war.

Which awards has Operation Mincemeat won?

The show has six Olivier Award nominations and has won Best New Musical and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for Jak Malone, along with WhatsOnStage and Off-West End awards, and it has also received four Tony Award nominations including Best Musical, with Malone winning the Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

Why is Operation Mincemeat so popular in York?

Operation Mincemeat is promoted as the 2024 Olivier Award-winning Best New Musical and one of the best-reviewed shows in West End history, now also a Tony Award-winning Broadway hit, so York audiences are keen to see a major London and New York success at Grand Opera House York.

How long does the performance of Operation Mincemeat last?

The performance runs for about 2 hours 35 minutes including an interval, so you should plan for roughly two and a half hours in the theatre from curtain up to the final bows.

Is Operation Mincemeat suitable for children?

The musical includes wartime themes, some strong language and dark humour, so it is generally recommended for older children, teenagers and adults, and parents should consider how comfortable their family is with war stories and satire before booking.

How can I get cheap tickets for Operation Mincemeat in York?

To find cheaper tickets, look at midweek performances, choose upper or rear seating bands instead of premium central seats, check different price bands on the theatre’s seating plan and compare options across official ticket outlets before you buy.

Are there any discounts or special offers available?

You may be able to save with concessions for certain age groups, group booking deals, membership discounts and occasional promotional offers, so it is worth checking the venue’s and official sellers’ information for any available reductions before paying full price.

Is it better to book Operation Mincemeat early or last minute in York?

Booking early is sensible for this one-week run because the best central seats and popular nights can sell quickly, but flexible theatregoers can sometimes find cheaper remaining or restricted-view seats closer to the performance date if availability allows.

Which seats offer the best value at Grand Opera House York?

Mid-priced seats a little further back in the stalls or lower circle usually balance a good view with reasonable cost, while upper-circle and restricted-view seats are often the cheapest choice if keeping the ticket price low matters more than being close to the stage.

What kind of music and atmosphere does Operation Mincemeat have?

The musical blends modern theatre and pop-influenced songs with fast, witty lyrics, a small cast playing many roles and energetic staging, creating an evening that feels like a mix of spy thriller, comedy and emotionally grounded wartime drama.

Seeing Operation Mincemeat in York lets you experience an Olivier and Tony Award-winning British musical with a daring true-story plot, acclaimed performances and a unique comic tone in the historic Grand Opera House, without needing to travel to London or New York.
