The Kiln Theatre has unveiled the cast and creative team for its upcoming revival of Natasha Gordon’s acclaimed play Nine Night, set to run from November 2026 to January 2027. This extension of the production’s engagement underscores its cultural significance.
The Kiln Theatre has confirmed the full cast for its revival of Nine Night, directed by artistic director and chief executive Amit Sharma. The production will play from 12 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, with press night scheduled for 20 November.
Casting includes Sonya Cassidy as Sophie, Estella Daniels as Trudy, Llewella Gideon as Auntie Maggie, Ava Hinds-Jones as Anita, Gary McDonald as Uncle Vincent, Dani Moseley as Lorraine, and Javone Prince as Robert.
Originally staged at the National Theatre in 2018, Natasha Gordon’s Nine Night explores a family gathering during the traditional Jamaican nine-night wake following the death of a relative. The play reveals family dynamics and secrets as mourners arrive, blending humour and emotional complexity.
The revival’s creative team features Gordon as writer, Sharma as director, with Libby Watson designing sets and costumes. Rory Beaton is responsible for lighting, Mwen for sound design and composition, and Kloé Dean serves as movement director.
Voice and dialect coaching will be provided by Hazel Holder and Claudette Williams. The casting was led by Julia Horan, supported by casting assistant Poppy Apter.
In announcing the cast, Sharma described it as an “absolute powerhouse” and praised the play’s humour and exploration of family love and loss. Gordon, who previously played Lorraine in the West End transfer, expressed excitement about revisiting the play alongside the new cast and director.
The extended run highlights Kiln Theatre’s ongoing commitment to presenting culturally resonant work that reflects diverse voices and stories within British theatre.
