The production of My Fair Lady at Pitlochry Festival Theatre is set to open on 21 November, with a press night scheduled for 27 November at 6pm. This revival is presented in association with Sonia Friedman Productions and is based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, featuring a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe.
Alan Cumming will portray Professor Henry Higgins, opposite Verity Power as Eliza Doolittle. The cast also includes Martin Ball as Colonel Pickering, Juliet Cadzow as Mrs Pearce, Julie Legrand as Mrs Higgins, and Alexander Newland as Alfred P Doolittle, among others filling both principal and ensemble roles.
The team behind the scenes is led by director Maria Friedman, with design by Tim Hatley and choreography by Ashley Nottingham. Neil Austin handles lighting design, while the musical supervision and direction are overseen by Joel Fram and Ben Kubiak respectively. Orchestrations are by Alexios Priftis, and casting is conducted by Natalie Gallacher for Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher Casting.
My Fair Lady, which originally premiered on Broadway in 1956 and was adapted into an iconic 1964 film starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, remains a staple of musical theatre. This revival seeks to reinvigorate the classic within the rural Scottish setting of Pitlochry.
The production marks a significant moment for Pitlochry Festival Theatre, serving as the finale to Alan Cumming’s first season as artistic director, highlighting his commitment to bringing acclaimed musical theatre to the venue.
With the full cast now announced and creative team in place, anticipation builds for this interpretation of My Fair Lady, which continues to be a benchmark in musical theatre storytelling.
