Frequently Asked Questions

When is Mean Girls the Musical in Cardiff?

Mean Girls the Musical is in Cardiff from 10 to 14 March 2026, for a limited one-week run. It plays at the Wales Millennium Centre, so it is worth booking early as popular dates can sell out quickly.

Where is Mean Girls being performed in Cardiff?

The show is performed in the Donald Gordon Theatre at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay. This modern venue has good public transport links, nearby parking, and plenty of places to eat and drink before or after the show.

What is Mean Girls the Musical about?

Mean Girls follows Cady Heron, a teenager who moves from being homeschooled in Africa to an American high school and finds herself tangled up with the popular Plastics. As she befriends and then tries to take down queen bee Regina George, Cady discovers the impact of gossip, bullying, and peer pressure, and learns that kindness and being yourself matter more than fitting in.

How long does the Mean Girls show last in Cardiff?

The performance runs for about 2 hours 30 minutes including an interval, so you should allow around three hours for your whole theatre visit. This gives you time to arrive, find your seat, get refreshments, and leave comfortably at the end of the show.

Is Mean Girls suitable for children and families?

The musical is generally recommended for older children and teens, with age guidance around 10 to 12 and over due to strong language, suggestive humour, and themes of bullying and high school relationships. Families with teenagers who know the film often find it funny and relatable, but it may not be suitable for very young children.

Has Mean Girls the Musical won any awards?

The original Broadway production received many major award nominations, including twelve Tony Award nominations such as Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score. More recently, the UK production has been recognised at theatre awards including winning Best New Musical at the WhatsOnStage Awards, showing how popular and well received the show has become.

How can I get cheap tickets for Mean Girls in Cardiff?

To find cheaper tickets, look first at midweek performances and earlier dates in the week, as these are often better value than Friday and Saturday evenings. Check a range of authorised ticket sellers, compare different seating levels like upper circle or side seats, and keep an eye out for early-bird or limited-time offers.

Are there any discounts or special offers at Wales Millennium Centre?

Wales Millennium Centre often provides offers such as group discounts, occasional concessions, and special pricing for selected performances. Signing up to the venue’s mailing list, creating an account on their site, and following their social channels can help you hear about promotions, priority booking, or flash sales in time to grab lower-priced seats.

When is the best time to book tickets?

Booking as soon as dates go on sale usually gives you the widest choice of prices and seat locations, especially if you want weekend or evening shows. If you are flexible, you can also watch for late seat releases or price drops closer to the date for quieter performances, but there is a risk that the best value seats may have gone.

What is the running schedule for performances in Cardiff?

Across the week of 10 to 14 March 2026 you can expect evening shows on most days, with one or more matinee performances, typically on Thursday or Saturday. Exact performance times are usually around early evening for night shows and afternoon for matinees, so you can choose a time that fits your travel and work plans.

Do I need to have seen the Mean Girls film to enjoy the Cardiff production?

You do not need to have seen the film, because the musical tells the story clearly on its own, introducing the characters, school setting, and main conflicts from the start. Fans of the film will recognise familiar lines and moments, while newcomers can still enjoy the fast-paced plot, comedy, and pop-rock songs without any background knowledge.

What should I expect from the music and staging?

The show features a modern pop-rock score with big ensemble numbers, emotional solos, and high-energy choreography that brings American high school life to the stage. Expect colourful sets, clever projections, quick costume changes, and dynamic staging that supports both the comedy and the more serious moments about bullying, friendship, and self-acceptance.
