Frequently Asked Questions

When is Mrs Doubtfire the Musical in Newcastle in 2026?

Mrs Doubtfire the Musical is scheduled at Newcastle Theatre Royal from 23 September 2026 to 11 October 2026, with performances across weekdays and weekends during this run.

Where is Mrs Doubtfire playing in Newcastle?

The musical will be performed at Newcastle Theatre Royal in the city centre, a major regional theatre that regularly hosts large touring West End shows and family musicals.

What is the plot of Mrs Doubtfire the Musical?

The musical follows Daniel Hillard, a loving but unreliable father who loses shared custody of his children after a messy divorce and searches for a way to stay close to them. He invents the character of Euphegenia Doubtfire, an older Scottish nanny, and disguises himself to be hired by his ex-wife, leading to chaotic comedy, touching family moments, and an emotional journey about honesty and what makes a real family.

Is the story the same as the Mrs Doubtfire film?

The show keeps the main storyline, characters, and heart of the 1993 film, including Daniel, Miranda, the children, and the unforgettable nanny persona. The stage version adds new original songs, modern humour, and updated references while still focusing on themes of love, co-parenting, and a parent’s determination to stay in their children’s lives.

Has Mrs Doubtfire the Musical received any awards or nominations?

The musical has earned recognition in the theatre world, including a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for the Broadway production and other award nominations for its creative team and design. It has also been praised by critics and audiences for its energetic staging, strong performances, and heartfelt adaptation of the much-loved story.

How long does the performance of Mrs Doubtfire usually last?

The show typically runs for about two and a half hours including an interval, similar to many big musical comedies. Plan to arrive at the theatre at least 30 minutes before the advertised start time so you can find your seat, buy refreshments if needed, and enjoy the atmosphere before the curtain goes up.

Is Mrs Doubtfire suitable for children and families?

The musical is designed as a family-friendly comedy with lots of physical humour, colourful characters, and catchy songs that older children and teenagers can enjoy. It does include themes of divorce, dating, and some mild language and jokes, so it is generally most suitable for families with school-age children rather than very young kids.

How can I get cheap tickets for Mrs Doubtfire in Newcastle?

To find cheaper seats, compare prices for different dates and sections of the theatre, as midweek performances and seats in the upper levels or further back often cost less than Saturday evenings and premium stalls. Booking early usually gives access to lower-priced ticket bands, and being flexible with dates outside peak weekends can help you avoid the highest prices.

Are there any discounts or offers available for Mrs Doubtfire in Newcastle?

Some ticket sellers and the venue may offer group discounts, early-booking deals, or occasional special promotions during the run. It is worth checking for family rates, group prices if you are going with a larger party, and off-peak performance offers such as midweek matinees, as these are often cheaper than peak times.

What is the best time to book tickets to save money?

Booking as soon as tickets go on sale or well in advance of the date you want to attend usually gives you the widest choice of cheaper seats before the most popular areas sell out. If your dates are flexible, try choosing midweek evenings or less busy performances rather than Friday or Saturday nights, which tend to have higher prices and sell out faster.

Will there be accessible performances or facilities for Mrs Doubtfire in Newcastle?

The Newcastle run is expected to include accessible options such as designated wheelchair spaces and step-free access seating, along with selected accessible performances like audio-described, captioned, or sign-interpreted shows. When you book, mention any access requirements so you can be offered suitable seats and information about the most appropriate performance dates.

What makes the Newcastle 2026 dates for Mrs Doubtfire special?

The Newcastle dates form part of the first major UK and Ireland tour of the hit West End and Broadway musical, bringing the full-scale production and original creative team’s vision to regional audiences. It offers the chance to see a big, modern musical comedy with an award-nominated central performance, combining nostalgia for the film with fresh new songs and stage magic in a local setting.
