National Theatre unveils full cast for The Rise and Fall of Little Voice

The National Theatre has revealed the complete cast for Jim Cartwright’s The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, set to play the Dorfman theatre in London before touring England early next year.

The production of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, directed by National Theatre deputy artistic director Robert Hastie, will open at the Dorfman theatre from 2 December 2026 to 23 January 2027. Following the London run, the play heads on tour across England from February to March 2027, with funding support from Arts Council England.

Paul Chuckle will take on the role of Mr Boo, Jill Halfpenny plays Mari Hoff, and Francesca Mills stars as Little Voice. The cast also includes Beverly Rudd as Sadie, Daniel Ryan as Ray Say, Adonis Siddique as Billy, and Noel White as Telephone Man, who also understudies Ray Say and Mr Boo.

Additional company members are Alice Croft in the ensemble and understudy Little Voice; Kofi Dennis in the ensemble and understudy Billy and Telephone Man; and Nicky Swift in the ensemble and understudy Mari Hoff and Sadie. The creative team features set and costume designer Janet Bird, lighting designer Paul Pyant, and sound designer Mike Walker among others.

Jim Cartwright’s play centres on Little Voice, a shy young woman who sings along to her late father’s records in her bedroom. When her mother Mari’s partner Ray discovers her talent, he tries to profit from it. The production integrates music from iconic singers including Judy Garland and Billie Holiday.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice will tour to Newcastle Theatre Royal from 3 to 6 February 2027, Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre from 9 to 13 February, Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre from 16 to 20 February, the Lowry in Salford from 23 to 27 February, the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from 2 to 6 March, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre from 9 to 13 March, and Theatre Royal Plymouth from 16 to 20 March.
