Where is Priscilla Queen of the Desert being performed in Newcastle?

The musical is being performed at Newcastle Theatre Royal in the city centre, a historic venue on Grey Street that regularly hosts major touring West End and UK productions.

What is Priscilla Queen of the Desert about?

The story follows three friends – drag performers Tick and Adam and retired transgender performer Bernadette – who travel across the Australian outback in a battered bus called Priscilla to put on a show and reconnect with family. On their road trip they face prejudice and danger but also discover friendship, acceptance, and the courage to live openly, all set to a soundtrack of famous disco and pop hits.

Has Priscilla Queen of the Desert won any awards?

The musical is based on the film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, which won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design. On stage, the show has earned a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Costume Design in London and a Tony Award for Best Costume Design on Broadway, as well as multiple nominations and awards for best musical, performances, and production in several countries.

What kind of music and performances can I expect?

You can expect a jukebox-style score packed with big disco, pop, and dance anthems from the 70s, 80s, and 90s performed live with powerful vocals and high-energy choreography. The Newcastle dates feature the same bold costumes, eye-catching staging, and party atmosphere seen elsewhere on the tour, with hit songs that many audience members will recognise and want to sing along to.

How long does the performance in Newcastle last?

Performances of Priscilla Queen of the Desert usually run for around 2 hours 20 to 2 hours 30 minutes including an interval, so you should plan for a full evening at the theatre. Aim to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time so you can collect tickets if needed, find your seat, visit the bar or toilets, and settle in without rushing.

Is Priscilla Queen of the Desert suitable for children?

The show includes adult humour, some strong language, and themes involving sexuality, homophobia, and gender identity, so it is mainly recommended for older teenagers and adults. Parents of younger teens should think carefully about how comfortable they are with drag performances, innuendo, and mature subject matter before deciding to bring them.

How can I get cheap tickets for Priscilla in Newcastle?

To find cheaper tickets, look at off-peak performances such as weekday evenings, as these are often better value than Friday or Saturday nights. Compare prices for different seating areas, including the upper levels or side and restricted-view seats, and try to book early because the lowest-priced ticket allocations tend to sell first.

Are there discounts or special offers available for Newcastle performances?

Discounts may appear as early booking offers, group rates for larger parties, or limited time promotions on specific dates or seats. It is worth signing up for Newcastle Theatre Royal emails, checking any membership schemes, and keeping an eye on off-peak dates where under-30s or other special price tickets are more likely to be available.

Can I get last minute tickets for Priscilla Queen of the Desert in Newcastle?

Last minute tickets may be available if a performance is not sold out, and sometimes returns or extra seats are released closer to the show date. This can be a good way to pick up cheaper seats if you are flexible about where you sit and which performance you attend, but if you need specific dates or want seats together it is safer to book ahead.
