Where is the show performed in High Wycombe?
All High Wycombe performances take place at the Wycombe Swan Theatre, a central venue in the town with comfortable seating across different levels and a range of ticket prices so you can choose a view that suits your budget.
What is The Ballad of Johnny and June about?
The musical tells the true love story of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, following them from their small-town roots and early careers through their meeting, whirlwind romance, struggles with addiction and fame, and their ultimate redemption, all framed through the eyes of their son John Carter Cash to show why their relationship defined an era.
What kind of music and songs are in the show?
The show is packed with legendary hits including I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, Hey Porter, Jackson, and I’ve Been Everywhere, alongside other numbers that blend country, rockabilly, gospel, and heartfelt ballads to match the soaring highs and shattering lows of their story.
Who is in the cast and who directs the production?
The tour stars American musical theatre actor Christopher Ryan Grant, who originated the role of Johnny Cash in the New York and Canadian premieres, alongside award-nominated performer Christina Bianco as June Carter, and the show is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff, known for productions such as Jersey Boys and The Who’s Tommy.
Has The Ballad of Johnny and June won any awards?
The Ballad of Johnny and June began with North American runs where it earned strong reviews and regional theatre awards and nominations for its performances, direction, and orchestrations, helping to establish its reputation before launching the major UK and Ireland tour that includes High Wycombe.
How long does the show last and is there an interval?
The High Wycombe run lists the show’s running time as still to be confirmed, but it is expected to last around two to two and a half hours, and information from other venues indicates that some performances may run without an interval, so it is sensible to check your ticket details and arrive prepared.
Is the show suitable for children and families?
The production is generally recommended for audiences aged 12 and over because it includes themes of drug and alcohol abuse, a rifle briefly seen on stage, some strong language, and emotionally intense scenes, so it is best suited to teenagers and adults rather than very young children.
Do I need to know Johnny Cash’s music to enjoy the show?
You do not need to be a long-time Johnny Cash fan to enjoy the musical because it is written as a clear, character-driven story about love, resilience, and second chances, with the famous songs used to support the drama so fans can relive favourite hits while newcomers discover the music through the storytelling.
How can I get cheap tickets for the High Wycombe dates?
To find cheaper tickets, look at weekday performances rather than Saturday evening, compare prices for upper-circle or side seats, book early before the best-value central seats sell out, sign up to theatre and ticket-seller mailing lists for presales and promo codes, and check if there are any off-peak or limited-time offers around your preferred dates.
Are there discounts or special offers available?
Discounts can include advance booking deals, selected performances with reduced prices, group rates for larger bookings, and concessions for certain age groups, so it is worth checking for student, under-26, senior, or family tickets and asking the box office which specific performances currently have the best prices.
Can I buy last-minute tickets and what is the best way to travel to the Wycombe Swan?
Last-minute tickets are often available if a performance has not sold out, and you may find returns or single seats at good value, but the best prices and choice usually come from booking midweek shows in advance; when travelling, the Wycombe Swan is close to High Wycombe train and bus connections, and drivers should plan ahead for town-centre parking, allow extra time to arrive, and check car park closing times so they are not rushed after the show.
