Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Rocky Horror Show about?

The Rocky Horror Show is a rock ’n’ roll musical about squeaky‑clean couple Brad and Janet, whose car breaks down on a stormy night and leads them to the creepy mansion of Dr Frank‑N‑Furter. Inside they meet eccentric Transylvanians, witness the creation of Rocky and are pulled into a wild, camp spoof of sci‑fi and horror, with classic songs like Time Warp, Sweet Transvestite and Dammit Janet.

Where is The Rocky Horror Show playing in Manchester?

In Manchester, The Rocky Horror Show is playing at the Palace Theatre, 97 Oxford Street, M1 6FT. The theatre is in the city centre, a short walk from Oxford Road and Piccadilly stations, with easy access to trams, buses and nearby car parks.

When is The Rocky Horror Show in Manchester?

The Manchester run is scheduled from Monday 27 July to Saturday 1 August 2026 as part of the 2026 UK and world tour. Performances take place on each of these dates, making it a key late‑July theatre event in the city.

What are the performance times in Manchester?

Listings show evening performances across the week, generally around 8:00 pm, with the full event lasting about two hours including the interval. Some days may have an additional earlier performance depending on demand, so always check the start time listed for your chosen date when you book.

How long is The Rocky Horror Show?

The Rocky Horror Show in Manchester has a running time of approximately 2 hours including an interval, as given on Palace Theatre information pages. This timing lets you enjoy all the big musical numbers and audience participation while still finishing in good time for late‑night transport or a post‑show drink.

Has The Rocky Horror Show won any awards?

The original London production ran for nearly 3,000 performances and won the 1973 Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Musical. Later productions received Tony Award nominations, and the film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has been recognised by the US National Film Registry and other awards for its enormous cult influence.

Is The Rocky Horror Show suitable for children?

The show features strong sexual innuendo, revealing costumes, cross‑dressing, some adult language and suggestive choreography, so it is intended mainly for older teens and adults. It is not recommended for young children, and under‑16s should attend only with an accompanying adult who is comfortable with the mature themes.

Do people dress up and participate at the Manchester performances?

Yes, dressing up and audience participation are a big part of the Rocky Horror tradition at the Palace Theatre. Many fans attend in corsets, fishnets and character‑inspired outfits, and you can expect call‑backs, singing along and dancing the Time Warp, as long as you follow the theatre’s rules on props, photography and respectful behaviour.

How can I get cheap tickets for The Rocky Horror Show in Manchester?

To find cheaper tickets, look at early‑week performances between Monday and Thursday, which often have lower starting prices than Friday and Saturday shows. Choosing seats further from the stage or to the sides instead of premium central stalls can also reduce costs significantly while still giving a good view in the Palace Theatre’s auditorium.

Are there discounts or concessions available?

Ticket providers sometimes offer concessions for students, seniors, under‑16s or groups, as well as periodic promotional offers on selected dates. Comparing prices across official sellers and reputable discount sites, and watching for early‑bird or limited‑time deals, can help you secure better‑value seats for the Manchester run.

Which seats offer the best value for money at the Palace Theatre?

Many theatregoers find that mid‑priced seats in the stalls or front of the circle offer an excellent balance of view and price, avoiding the most expensive top‑tier rows. If you are on a tighter budget, rear or side‑block seats can be cheaper while still providing a clear view of the stage and all the audience interaction that makes Rocky Horror so entertaining.

Where can I check Manchester showtimes and availability before booking?

Up‑to‑date showtimes and remaining availability for the 27 July – 1 August 2026 run are listed on the Palace Theatre’s official event pages and major ticket listings for The Rocky Horror Show. Before buying, confirm the date, start time and seat location for your chosen performance so your tickets match your travel plans and budget.
