UK premiere of Stefano Massini’s Donald to open at Theatre Royal Bath
Stefano Massini’s new play Donald, tracing the business career of Donald Trump before his presidency, is set for its UK premiere at the Theatre Royal Bath this autumn. Adapted and directed by Sean Foley, the production offers a contemporary portrait of the controversial figure through the lens of his property and media ventures.
Donald will open at the Ustinov Studio, Theatre Royal Bath, running from Friday 6 November to Saturday 5 December 2026. The play focuses on Donald John Trump’s rise through property development, golf, hotels, media, and reality TV, culminating in the period before his entry into politics.
The script is by Stefano Massini, internationally recognised for The Lehman Trilogy, which won five Tony Awards including Best Play and marked the first Tony win for an Italian writer. Donald is Massini’s latest work to receive a UK premiere.
Sean Foley, who adapted and directs the production, brings a theatre practitioner’s eye to the complex and controversial figure of Trump. The production is presented by Theatre Royal Bath Productions in partnership with Sustainable Entertainment.
Massini currently has another play, The Ladies Football Club, in rehearsal at the Sheffield Crucible, signalling a busy period for the acclaimed Italian playwright.
This new play adds to the ongoing theatrical interest in political and business figures in recent years, continuing the exploration of high-profile contemporary lives on stage.
