A candlelit concert celebrating Stephen Sondheim’s music will be held at St James’ Piccadilly next November, featuring a cast of established West End performers and emerging talent. The event marks five years since the legendary composer’s death and focuses on his storytelling through voice.

Colour & Light, a candlelit concert dedicated to the work of Stephen Sondheim, will take place at St James’ Piccadilly in London’s West End at 7.30pm on Saturday 21 November 2026. The programme highlights Sondheim’s lyrics, music and storytelling, with an emphasis on vocal performance.

The event will feature West End stars including Jak Malone, David Bedella, Stewart Clarke, Clare Foster, and Lucy Schaufer. They will be joined by Alfie Friedman, Georgie Lagden, Chad St Louis, and a company of 14 emerging performers, bringing fresh voices to the celebration.

Musical arrangements have been prepared by Jason Carr, a Tony and Olivier Award-nominated orchestrator known for his work on Sondheim productions. The concert will be accompanied by piano, strings, and woodwind instruments.

Co-produced by the Stephen Sondheim Society, Colour & Light will be performed with dimmed lighting to enhance the intimate atmosphere of the event. The use of candlelight aims to create a unique setting to appreciate the nuances of Sondheim’s songwriting.

The concert marks the fifth anniversary of Stephen Sondheim’s death, reflecting on his enduring influence in musical theatre through a thoughtful selection of his work. It offers a moment to revisit and honour his contributions to the art form.

Presented in the heart of the West End, the event aligns with continued interest in celebrating seminal figures in musical theatre. The detail-oriented presentation underscores the value placed on Sondheim’s legacy within the theatre community.
