Full cast announced for Cranford adaptation at Orange Tree Theatre

The Orange Tree Theatre has revealed the complete cast for Cranford, a new stage adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel. The production, running from November 2026 to January 2027, explores the impact of external change on a close-knit 1840s community.

The Orange Tree Theatre has confirmed the full cast for Cranford, adapted by Lin Coghlan and Shaun McKenna. Tamsin Greig leads as Matty Jenkyns, joined by Sara Crowe as Mrs Forester, Abigail Cruttenden in dual roles as Deborah Jenkyns and Lady Glenmire, and Saffron Dey playing Martha and Young Matty.

Alexandra Gilbreath appears as Miss Pole, Jonny Glynn takes on multiple parts including Older Peter and Rev Jenkyns, while Michael Lumsden portrays Tom Holbrook, Dr Hoggins, and Dobson. Robert Merriam plays Jem Hearn and Young Peter, with Sara Powell as Mrs Jamieson and Phoebe Pryce as Eliza Cleghorn.

Set in the 1840s, the play centres on the inhabitants of Cranford, a small town facing the ripple effects of societal shifts beyond its borders. The adaptation is co-created and directed by Josh Roche, reuniting with Coghlan and McKenna after their work on The Forsyte Saga at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The production features set and costume design by Natalie Johnson, lighting by Jamie Platt, and sound design and composition by Max Pappenheim. Additional creative roles include casting consultation by Jacob Sparrow, assistant direction by Charlotte Rogers, and associate costume design by Evelien Van Camp.

Cranford opens at the Orange Tree Theatre on 3 November 2026, with a press night scheduled for 13 November, running through to 16 January 2027.
