The Curious Incident tour unveils new trailer and cast with female lead

The UK tour of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has revealed a fresh trailer alongside additional 2027 tour stops. The production notably features a female Chris Boone for the first time, offering a new take on the acclaimed stage adaptation.

The current UK tour of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time began earlier this month at Birmingham Rep. It has now released a new trailer and announced further tour dates for 2027. This iteration innovates by casting female performers in the central role of Chris Boone, switching the character’s pronouns for the production.

Leading the company as Chris is Alex Keenan, with alternate Imi Price sharing the role. Charlie Brooks plays Judy, and Joe McFadden appears as Ed. The ensemble also includes Bridgette Amofah, Alex Murdoch, Matthew Bulgo, Jerone Marsh Reid, Carla Garratt, Tom Clegg, Robert Penny, and Sera Mustafa.

The production is directed by Ned Bennett, featuring set and costume designs by Eleanor Bull. Laura Howard provides lighting design, while Giles Thomas handles composition and sound design. Hayley Egan is responsible for video design and Jenni Jackson directs movement.

Additional creative roles include Izzy Pellow for costume supervision, Eve Hall for props supervision, and Abby Galvin in charge of casting. Associate direction is credited to Anastasia Osei-Kuffour.

The play remains a stage adaptation of Simon Stephens’ script based on Mark Haddon’s novel. It centres on Chris Boone, a gifted teenager investigating the death of a neighbour’s dog and uncovering hidden family secrets.

The switch to a female lead marks a significant reinterpretation in how the story’s protagonist is portrayed. The new trailer showcases this perspective alongside the artistic team’s approach to the touring production.
