Billy Elliot the Musical to return to West End’s Adelphi Theatre in 2027

The acclaimed musical Billy Elliot is set for a limited West End run in 2027, marking its first return in over a decade. This revival forms part of a national tour of the original award-winning production, reigniting interest in the beloved story.

Billy Elliot the Musical will be staged at London’s Adelphi Theatre from 12 February to 31 July 2027. The production returns as part of a nationwide tour, bringing the story back to the West End after more than ten years.

Based on the 2000 film, the musical is set in a northern mining town during the 1984-85 miners’ strike. It follows the journey of young Billy, who shifts from boxing to ballet, inspiring his family and community through his passion for dance.

The musical was created by writer Lee Hall, director Stephen Daldry, and composer Elton John, and has won numerous awards, including 10 Tony Awards and 5 Olivier Awards. The original choreography is by Peter Darling.

The creative team also includes scenic designer Ian MacNeil, costume designer Nicky Gillibrand, lighting designer Rick Fisher, and sound designer Paul Arditti. Campbell Young is responsible for hair, wig and make-up design, and Martin Koch oversees musical supervision and orchestrations.

Elton John and Stephen Daldry described the revival as “incredibly emotional and exciting,” emphasising the production’s enduring relevance and cultural significance. They expressed anticipation for new audiences experiencing the show.

Casting details for the 2027 revival have not yet been announced. Tickets and further information will become available on LondonTheatre.co.uk in due course.

Billy Elliot’s return comes amid sustained West End interest in reviving major musicals connected to British film and social history, highlighting the impact of storytelling that blends gritty realism with art and resilience.
