Dirty Dancing confirms West End cast for 2027 Prince Edward run
The beloved musical Dirty Dancing will return to London’s West End early next year, with casting announced and a limited season set at the Prince Edward Theatre. This revival brings back key cast members and a seasoned creative team to revisit the iconic 1987 film’s celebrated story and soundtrack.
Dirty Dancing, based on the 1987 film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, will play the Prince Edward Theatre from 19 January until 24 April 2027. The production features songs including “Hungry Eyes”, “Hey! Baby”, “Do You Love Me?” and the Oscar-winning “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life”.
Michael O’Reilly reprises his role as Johnny Castle, leading the cast alongside Pippa Jackson as Baby Houseman and Emily Layden-Fritz as Penny Johnson. The creative team is led by director and set designer Federico Bellone, with choreography by Austin Wilks and music supervision by Richard John.
The musical first premiered in the West End at the Aldwych Theatre in 2006, where it ran for five years. It has since toured internationally and returned to London in various venues including the Piccadilly Theatre (2013), Phoenix Theatre (2016), and the Dominion Theatre in 2022 and 2023.
Written by Eleanor Bergstein, who penned the original film screenplay, the production is produced by Karl Sydow in association with Lionsgate and Magic Hour Productions. The team also includes lighting designer Valerio Tiberi, sound designer Chris Whybrow, costume designer Jennifer Irwin, and casting director Harry Blumenau.
Associate director Juliet Gough and associate producer Russ Spencer are part of the backing team, with Ivan Mactaggart co-producing and general management by New Road Theatricals. Production manager Pete Kramer rounds off the ensemble.
This announcement follows the postponement of the Capital Theatre’s opening, where Dirty Dancing was previously slated to be the inaugural production. The limited engagement at the Prince Edward Theatre offers audiences another chance to revisit the enduring appeal of this dance-infused musical.
