Frequently Asked Questions

When is Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical in Birmingham?

Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical is scheduled at The Alexandra in Birmingham from 22 June to 3 July 2027, with performances across almost two weeks.

Where is the show performed in Birmingham?

In Birmingham, the musical is performed at The Alexandra, a major city-centre theatre close to Birmingham New Street station. The venue has several seating levels, on-site bars, and easy access to restaurants and transport, making it convenient for an evening out.

What is Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical about?

Just For One Day is a jukebox musical that retells the events leading up to Live Aid, the 1985 benefit concerts organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds and awareness for the famine in Ethiopia. It follows a mix of real figures and fictional characters as they deal with creative challenges, politics, and personal struggles while trying to pull off a world-changing concert.

How is the story told on stage?

The show is staged like a live gig, with a band on stage and a young ensemble delivering an Eighties playlist packed with big anthems. It uses a modern-day perspective and flashbacks, connecting today’s audience with Live Aid through humour, nostalgia, and emotional scenes about ordinary people doing something extraordinary.

Has Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical received any awards or nominations?

The London production received strong reviews and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Contribution, recognising the musical supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations. The cast album has also received an honorary award connected to the Live Aid anniversary, underlining how the show keeps the music and story alive for new generations.

What songs are featured in the musical?

The musical features songs associated with many Live Aid performers, including Queen, David Bowie, U2, Elton John, The Police, The Who, Bob Dylan, Madonna, Paul McCartney, and Diana Ross. These tracks are carefully tied to key narrative moments so that familiar hits gain new meaning in the context of the characters and story.

How long does the performance last?

The show runs for around two and a half hours including an interval, similar to other large-scale touring musicals. This gives time to tell the full story behind Live Aid’s creation and fit in a wide range of well-known songs.

Is the musical suitable for children and families?

The production includes loud rock-style music, concert lighting, and themes such as famine, politics, and global charity, so it is generally recommended for teenagers and older children. Families who enjoy live music and real-life stories usually find it powerful and inspiring, but very young children may find the volume and subject matter intense.

How can I get cheap tickets for Just For One Day in Birmingham?

To get cheaper tickets, start by checking weekday performances and any matinees, as these are often priced lower than Friday and Saturday evenings. Signing up for The Alexandra’s mailing list and major theatre ticket sites can give you early notice of presales, discount codes, and limited-time offers before the best-value seats sell out.

Are there rush tickets, day seats, or last-minute deals?

Many big theatres now offer rush or day seat schemes, where a limited number of same-day tickets are released at reduced prices through apps or at the box office. For Birmingham dates, check nearer the time whether rush or day seats are available at The Alexandra, and be ready to book early in the morning or visit the box office in person if they are.

Can I save money by choosing different seats?

Yes, seats higher up or further from the stage usually cost less while still offering good views and strong sound for the big musical numbers. If your main aim is to enjoy the music and atmosphere rather than sit close to the front, the upper levels and side blocks can offer excellent value.

Do group or family bookings offer discounts?

Group bookings often unlock better prices per ticket when you buy a block of seats, which is ideal for schools, clubs, or large family outings. It is worth checking The Alexandra’s group booking information or contacting the box office to ask about minimum group sizes, eligible performance dates, and any extra benefits such as reserved seating areas.
