Rufus Hound to lead Jack & Sarah stage premiere at the Mill at Sonning
Rufus Hound will star in the world premiere stage adaptation of the 1995 romantic comedy Jack & Sarah, opening at the Mill at Sonning in April. The production revives the film’s story of unexpected parenthood and connection for a new theatre audience.
Rufus Hound is set to headline the cast of Jack & Sarah, which makes its world premiere at the Mill at Sonning from 23 April to 14 June. The adaptation is based on Tim Sullivan’s 1995 film, which featured Richard E Grant and Judi Dench.
The comedy follows a workaholic lawyer thrust into single parenthood when left to raise his baby daughter alone, eventually forming a bond with a free-spirited au pair. George Banks will play Jack, while Anya De Villiers takes the role of Amy, the au pair.
Other cast members include Sarah Moyle as Phil and Doula, Neil Roberts as Michael, Lucy Doyle as Sarah and Anna, and Lee White as Nat and Alain. The production is adapted by Duncan Abel and directed by Abigail Pickard Price.
The creative team features set designer Terry Parsons, lighting designer Mark Dymock, and costume and hair designer Natalie Titchener. Ella Wahlström serves as sound designer and composer with movement direction by Amy Lawrence.
Casting is managed by Andrew Lynford. The production offers press performances on 1 and 2 May, ahead of its opening to the public. The adaptation brings to stage a nostalgic yet contemporary look at balancing work and family life.
Jack & Sarah joins a trend of reviving beloved British films for the theatre, exploring intimate stories through live performance. The Mill at Sonning continues its reputation for presenting new and adapted works in a rural Thameside setting.
