Starlight Express revival to be screened in cinemas next month
The acclaimed revival of Starlight Express will be released in cinemas next month, offering audiences a chance to see the roller-skating musical captured live at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. The film features the original cast of 40 performers from the recent production.
Starlight Express, the roller-skating musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Richard Stilgoe, has been filmed live at the purpose-built Starlight Auditorium at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. The cinema release showcases the cast of 40 performers, led by Jeevan Braich as Rusty, the steam train who takes part in a race to become the fastest engine.
The production centres on Rusty’s journey inspired by the legend of the Starlight Express, pitting him against more confident competitors. Braich’s performance earned him the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Professional Debut in the recent revival directed by Luke Sheppard.
This revival of Starlight Express won seven WhatsOnStage Awards, including Best Musical Revival, reflecting its critical recognition and popularity. Other principal cast members include Jade Marvin as Momma McCoy, Olivia Ringrose as Greaseball, Asher Forth as Electra, Sophie Naglik as Pearl, Georgia Pemberton as Dinah, and Jaydon Vijn as Hydra.
The full cast also features Amber Weston, Amiyah Goodall, Ashley Rowe, Bethany Rose Lythgoe, Charles Butcher, Charlie Russell, Christopher Azzopardi, and many others, underlining the scale of the production. The roller-skating choreography remains a distinctive element of the show’s staging.
The filming intends to bring the energy and spectacle of the live performance to cinema audiences unable to attend at Wembley Park. A trailer has been released to promote the upcoming screening, further expanding the production’s reach beyond the theatre.
This release reflects a growing trend to capture West End shows on film, allowing wider access to popular live theatre productions without the limitations of venue capacity. Details of the exact cinema dates and ticketing are yet to be confirmed.
