Frequently Asked Questions

When is The Ballad of Johnny and June in Bradford?

The Ballad of Johnny and June is at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford from Tuesday 30 June to Saturday 4 July 2026, with performances across weekday evenings and a Saturday matinee.

Where is the show performed in Bradford?

All Bradford performances take place at the Alhambra Theatre on Morley Street, a large city-centre venue with several seating levels and a range of ticket prices to suit different budgets.

What is The Ballad of Johnny and June about?

The musical follows the true love story of country music icons Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, tracing their childhoods, rise to fame, first meeting at the Grand Ole Opry, whirlwind romance, struggles with addiction and life on the road, and ultimate redemption, all told through the eyes of their son John Carter Cash.

What kind of music and songs are in the show?

The show is packed with legendary hits including I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, Hey Porter, Jackson, and I’ve Been Everywhere, along with other songs that blend country, rockabilly, gospel, and heartfelt ballads to match the soaring highs and shattering lows of their relationship.

Who created the musical and has it won any awards?

The Ballad of Johnny and June has a book by Robert Cary and Des McAnuff, with music and lyrics by Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, and others, and is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff; earlier North American productions have earned strong reviews, regional awards, and nominations for performances, direction, and orchestrations.

What is the running time and is there an interval?

The Bradford run lists the running time as to be confirmed, but information from the wider tour suggests you can expect around two to two and a half hours including an interval, which is typical for a large-scale musical biography.

Is the show suitable for children and families?

The production is generally recommended for ages 12 and over because it includes mature themes such as substance abuse, strong language, a rifle briefly seen on stage, and emotionally intense scenes, so it is best suited to teenagers and adults rather than very young children.

Do I need to know Johnny Cash’s music to enjoy the show?

You do not need to be a dedicated Johnny Cash fan to enjoy the musical because it is written as a clear, emotional story about love, resilience, and second chances, with the famous songs used to support the drama so fans can relive classic hits while newcomers discover the music through the characters’ journeys.

How can I get cheap tickets for the Bradford dates?

To find cheaper tickets, look at midweek performances instead of Saturday night, compare prices for seats in the upper levels or at the sides of the auditorium, book as early as possible before the best-value central seats sell out, and sign up to Bradford Theatres’ mailing list and major ticket-seller newsletters to hear about presales and discount offers.

Are there discounts or special offers available?

Discounts can include advance booking deals, off-peak performances with reduced prices, group rates for larger parties, and concessions for certain age groups, so it is worth checking for student, under-26, senior, or family tickets and asking the box office which dates currently have the best value.

Can I buy last-minute or same-day tickets?

Last-minute tickets are often available if a performance has not sold out, and you may sometimes find returns or single seats at good prices, but the best combination of price and choice usually comes from booking midweek shows in advance and being open to higher or side-view seats.

What is the best way to travel to the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford?

The Alhambra Theatre is in Bradford city centre on Morley Street, within walking distance of bus and rail links, while drivers can use nearby car parks; it is sensible to allow extra time for traffic, follow city-centre parking signs, and check car park charges and closing times so you can enjoy the show without rushing afterwards.
