The Ballad of Johnny and June runs at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne from Tuesday 25 August to Saturday 29 August 2026, with performances across weekday evenings and a Saturday show.
Where is the show performed in Eastbourne?
All Eastbourne performances take place at the Congress Theatre, a large seafront venue on Carlisle Road with a modern auditorium, tiered seating, and a range of ticket prices.
What is The Ballad of Johnny and June about?
The musical takes you inside the soaring highs and shattering lows of the love story between Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, following them from the stage to the road through triumphs, heartbreak, addiction, and redemption, told through the eyes of their son John Carter Cash so you see why they remain one of the most influential couples of the twentieth century.
What songs and musical style can I expect?
The show is packed with legendary hits including I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, Hey Porter, Jackson, and I’ve Been Everywhere, blending country, rockabilly, gospel, and emotional ballads so the music matches both the passion and the pain of their story.
Who created and directs the musical, and has it won any awards?
The Ballad of Johnny and June has a book by Robert Cary and Des McAnuff, with music and lyrics by Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, and others, and is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff, known for Jersey Boys, The Who’s Tommy, and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical; its North American premiere and early runs have earned strong reviews and regional awards and nominations for performances, direction, and orchestrations.
Is the show suitable for children and families?
The Eastbourne listing gives an age guidance of 12 plus and notes that the production includes themes of drug and alcohol abuse, a rifle seen on stage but not fired, and some strong language, so it is best suited to teenagers and adults rather than very young children.
Do I need to know Johnny Cash’s music to enjoy the show?
You do not need to be a long-time Johnny Cash fan to enjoy the musical because it is written as a clear, emotional story about love, resilience, and second chances, with the classic songs used to support the drama so fans can relive favourite tracks while newcomers discover the music through the characters’ journeys.
How long does the show last and is there an interval?
Information from the wider tour indicates a running time of around two hours and thirty minutes including an interval, which is typical for a major musical biography and allows time for key life events and a generous selection of songs.
What do tickets cost for Eastbourne performances?
Ticket prices for The Ballad of Johnny and June at Eastbourne Theatres currently range from about £26 up to £65 before any transaction fees, with prices varying by performance and seat location.
How can I get cheap tickets for the Eastbourne dates?
To find cheaper tickets, look at midweek performances rather than Saturday night, compare prices for higher or side-view seats in the Congress Theatre, book as early as possible before the best-value central seats sell out, and sign up to Eastbourne Theatres and major ticket-seller mailing lists so you hear about presales, promo codes, and limited-time offers.
Are there discounts or special offers available?
Discounts can include lower-priced off-peak performances, advance booking deals, group rates, and concessions for certain age groups, so it is worth checking whether there are student, under-26, senior, or family tickets available for your chosen date and asking the box office which shows currently have the best value seats.
What is the best way to travel to the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne?
The Congress Theatre is close to Eastbourne seafront and within walking distance of the town centre and railway station, while drivers can use nearby car parks, so it is sensible to allow extra time for traffic, follow local event-parking signs, and check parking charges and closing times so you can leave after the show without rushing.
