Frequently Asked Questions

Where is The Karate Kid The Musical playing in Liverpool?

The Karate Kid The Musical is playing at the Liverpool Empire Theatre on Lime Street in the city centre. This historic venue is close to Liverpool Lime Street station, making it very easy to reach by train, bus, or car.

When is The Karate Kid The Musical in Liverpool?

The Liverpool run is scheduled from 2 June to 6 June 2026. During this week there are evening performances on most days and matinees on selected dates, giving you several options to fit your diary.

What is The Karate Kid The Musical about?

The musical is a stage version of the classic 1984 film, following teenager Daniel LaRusso after he moves to a new town and is targeted by a group of karate students from the Cobra Kai dojo. With the help of his neighbour Mr Miyagi, Daniel learns that karate is about balance, discipline, and respect, eventually facing his rivals in a high-stakes tournament that tests his skills and his courage.

How closely does the musical follow the original film?

The show keeps the main story beats from the film, including Daniel’s move, his clashes with Johnny, and his training with Mr Miyagi. It adds original songs, dance numbers, and expanded scenes that explore the characters’ emotions and relationships while still delivering the iconic moments fans expect.

Who is behind the production and have they won any awards?

The Karate Kid The Musical is created by the original film’s screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen with music and lyrics by Drew Gasparini. Its creative team includes award-winning theatre artists such as director Amon Miyamoto and Tony Award-winning designer Derek McLane, bringing high-level Broadway and West End experience to the Liverpool staging.

How long does the performance last?

The show usually runs for about two and a half hours including an interval. This gives time to revisit the favourite scenes from the film while adding new musical sequences and visually striking karate-inspired choreography.

Is The Karate Kid The Musical suitable for children?

The musical is generally suitable for older children and families, especially those comfortable with staged fight scenes and themes of bullying and rivalry. The overall tone is uplifting and positive, with a strong focus on perseverance, self-belief, and resolving conflict through discipline rather than aggression.

What is the atmosphere like at Liverpool Empire for this show?

Liverpool Empire is a large, traditional theatre, so you can expect a big, cinematic feel with bold lighting, sound, and set pieces. The production uses dynamic staging, projections, and movement to make the karate training and tournament sequences feel exciting and immersive.

How can I get cheap tickets for The Karate Kid The Musical in Liverpool?

To find cheaper tickets, start by looking at midweek performances and daytime matinees instead of Friday or Saturday evenings, as these are often priced lower. Booking early in standard price bands, choosing seats a little further from the front, and avoiding top premium areas can significantly reduce the overall cost.

Are there discounts or concessions available?

For many performances at Liverpool Empire, there are often concessions for children, students, seniors, and sometimes for groups booking a larger number of seats. It can also be worth checking if there are family tickets or occasional promotional offers that bundle seats together at a reduced per-ticket price.

Do last-minute tickets get cheaper for Liverpool dates?

Some dates may see price adjustments as the performance approaches, especially if there is remaining availability. If you are flexible with dates and seat locations, checking prices in the days leading up to a performance can sometimes reveal attractive last-minute value, though popular shows and peak times may still sell out.

Which seats give the best value for money at Liverpool Empire?

Many theatre-goers find that mid-priced seats in the rear stalls or mid to front areas of the circle offer a strong balance of view and price. Side blocks and higher rows can be more affordable while still giving a clear overall view of the stage, which works well for a visually rich show like The Karate Kid The Musical.
