Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Rocky Horror Show about?

The Rocky Horror Show is a rock ’n’ roll musical about squeaky‑clean couple Brad and Janet, whose car breaks down on a stormy night and leads them to the strange mansion of Dr Frank‑N‑Furter. Inside they meet wild Transylvanians, see Rocky created in a lab and are swept into a night of sci‑fi, sexuality and camp comedy, with classic songs like Time Warp, Sweet Transvestite and Dammit Janet.

Where is The Rocky Horror Show playing in Birmingham?

In Birmingham, The Rocky Horror Show is playing at The Alexandra Theatre on Suffolk Queensway, B5 4DS. The Alexandra is in the city centre, close to Birmingham New Street station, city tram stops, bus routes and a range of nearby car parks and restaurants.

When is The Rocky Horror Show in Birmingham?

The Birmingham run is from Monday 6 July to Saturday 11 July 2026 as part of the 2026 UK and world tour. Performances take place on each of these days, making it one of the key summer musical events in the city.

What are the performance times in Birmingham?

Listings show evening performances across the week, usually around 7:30 pm from Monday to Saturday, with potential additional performances on certain days depending on demand. Always double‑check the exact start time shown when you choose your tickets so you can arrive in good time.

How long is The Rocky Horror Show?

The Rocky Horror Show generally runs for about 2 hours including an interval. This gives enough time for all the big musical numbers and audience participation while still finishing early enough for trains, trams and a post‑show drink in central Birmingham.

Has The Rocky Horror Show won any awards?

The original London production ran for almost 3,000 performances and won the 1973 Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Musical. The Broadway revival received several Tony Award nominations, and the story’s film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has been honoured by the National Film Registry and other organisations for its huge cult influence.

Is The Rocky Horror Show suitable for children?

The show contains strong sexual innuendo, suggestive costumes, cross‑dressing, adult language and risqué humour, so it is aimed mainly at older teens and adults. It is not recommended for young children, and under‑16s should attend only with an accompanying adult who is comfortable with the mature content.

Do audiences dress up and participate at The Alexandra?

Yes, dressing up and audience participation are a big part of the Rocky Horror tradition in Birmingham. Many fans turn up in corsets, fishnets and character‑inspired outfits, and you can expect call‑backs, singing along and dancing the Time Warp, as long as you follow The Alexandra’s guidance on props, photography and respectful behaviour.

How can I get cheap tickets for The Rocky Horror Show in Birmingham?

To find cheaper tickets, look first at early‑week performances between Monday and Thursday, which often have lower starting prices than Friday and Saturday nights. Choosing seats a little further from the stage or to the sides instead of premium central stalls can also reduce costs while still giving a good view in The Alexandra’s auditorium.

Are there discounts or concessions available?

Ticket sellers may offer concessions for students, seniors, under‑16s or group bookings, as well as occasional early‑bird or promotional deals for selected shows. Checking a couple of reputable outlets and looking for off‑peak discounts, group rates or package offers can help you secure better value seats for the Birmingham dates.

Which seats offer the best value for money at The Alexandra?

Many theatregoers find that mid‑priced seats in the stalls or front of the circle provide an excellent balance of view and price, avoiding the very top premium rows. If you are on a tighter budget, rear or side sections can be cheaper while still offering a clear view of the stage, which works well for a big, music‑driven, audience‑interactive show like Rocky Horror.

Where can I check Birmingham showtimes and availability before booking?

Up‑to‑date showtimes and remaining availability for the 6–11 July 2026 run are listed on official tour date pages and Birmingham event listings for The Rocky Horror Show. Before buying, confirm the date, start time and seat location for your chosen performance so your tickets line up with your travel plans and budget.
