Back to the Future The Musical is scheduled at Edinburgh Playhouse from 2 December 2026 to 2 January 2027, as part of the first UK tour of the show.

Where is Back to the Future The Musical playing in Edinburgh?

The musical is playing at Edinburgh Playhouse on Greenside Place, a large city centre theatre known for hosting major West End and touring productions, with good public transport links and nearby parking.

What is Back to the Future The Musical about?

The story follows teenager Marty McFly, who is accidentally sent from 1985 back to 1955 in a time machine built by eccentric scientist Doc Brown, where he disrupts his parents’ first meeting and must repair the timeline and get back home before he erases his own future.

Has Back to the Future The Musical won any awards?

Back to the Future The Musical is a multi award winning show, including the 2022 Olivier Award for Best New Musical and additional wins at the WhatsOnStage Awards and Broadway World Awards, which recognises its music, design, and overall production quality.

What kind of music is in the show?

The musical features a mix of new songs written for the stage and classic hits from the film such as The Power of Love, Johnny B Goode, Earth Angel, and Back in Time, blending fresh theatre numbers with familiar favourites from the movie soundtrack.

How long is the performance at Edinburgh Playhouse?

The performance usually runs for around two and a half hours including a short interval, so you should plan to be at the theatre for most of the evening or afternoon depending on the performance time.

Is Back to the Future The Musical suitable for children?

The show is generally suitable for older children and families, combining big visual effects, humour, and music, though parents should be aware that it includes mild language and comic peril similar to the original film, so very young children may find some moments intense.

How can I get cheap tickets for Edinburgh dates?

To get cheaper tickets, look at midweek or off peak performances, choose seats higher up or further back like the upper circle instead of premium stalls, and book early before the popular Christmas and New Year dates sell the best value seats.

Are there discounts or special offers available?

You may find special offers such as early booking deals, occasional price promotions, or reduced rates for groups, so it is worth checking different performance dates, avoiding peak Friday and Saturday evenings, and signing up for theatre or ticket seller newsletters for sale alerts.

Can I buy last minute tickets for Back to the Future in Edinburgh?

Last minute tickets can sometimes be available if a performance is not sold out, and checking closer to the date may reveal returned or late release seats, which can occasionally be cheaper, but for busy Christmas week shows it is safer to book in advance to avoid limited choice.

What makes this production special?

This production is known for its impressive stage effects, including the DeLorean time machine brought spectacularly to life, energetic choreography, and a fast paced, fun tone that aims to recreate the excitement of the film while adding big musical theatre moments.

How far in advance should I book Edinburgh tickets?

Because the Edinburgh run covers the busy Christmas and New Year period, weekend and holiday performances are likely to sell quickly, so booking those dates as early as possible gives you the best choice of seats and prices, while more flexible theatregoers may find better value on midweek dates outside the main holiday days.
