Cult Korean musical The Last Man to premiere in UK at Southwark Playhouse
The acclaimed Korean zombie apocalypse musical The Last Man will have its UK debut this summer at Southwark Playhouse in Elephant and Castle, offering English-speaking audiences a reimagined solo survival story. The production runs from 8 May to 6 June 2026, marking the musical’s first UK staging.
The Last Man is set after a catastrophic virus has wiped out much of humanity, focusing on a lone survivor barricaded in bunker B-103 as undead creatures wander outside city ruins. This new UK adaptation is directed by Seoul-based filmmaker and theatre-maker Daljung Kim, who has overseen the musical’s transition for English-speaking audiences.
The show is scheduled at Southwark Playhouse Elephant, with performances beginning on Friday 8 May and concluding on Saturday 6 June, and a press night planned for Wednesday 13 May at 7pm. The creative team includes Jishik Kim (book and lyrics), Seungyeon Kwon (music), and dramaturgy by Jethro Compton.
Originally developed as a web musical in Korea, The Last Man built a devoted fanbase through multiple award-winning productions in Seoul and China. This UK staging is the musical’s third major production overall and its initial introduction to British theatregoers.
Daljung Kim has previously contributed to new Korean musicals such as Mahogony and Gloomy Sunday, in addition to directing Korean productions of An Iliad, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and The Spitfire Grill. Jethro Compton is an award-winning director, designer, and writer known for The Bunker Trilogy and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Further casting and creative team details are expected to be announced, while the production’s line producing and general management are handled by Gary Beestone Associates.
The Last Man joins a growing wave of Korean musicals gaining attention overseas, reflecting increasing international interest in Korea’s vibrant theatre scene.
