Meow Meow joins Ramin Karimloo in Birmingham Rep’s Sweeney Todd revival

Birmingham Repertory Theatre has announced new casting for its upcoming revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, with Meow Meow cast as Mrs Lovett alongside Ramin Karimloo as the lead. The production promises a fresh take on the Stephen Sondheim classic in a major summer season.

The multi-award-winning musical Sweeney Todd, by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler and based on Christopher Bond’s adaptation, will be revived at Birmingham Rep next summer. The show centres on a vengeful barber and his partner Mrs Lovett, with the company aiming to deliver a new rendition of the dark tale.

Joe Murphy, Birmingham Rep’s artistic director, is directing the production, with design led by Elin Steele. John Rigby handles musical supervision while casting director Abby Galvin led the talent selection.

Ramin Karimloo will portray the tortured barber, bringing his acclaimed stage presence to the role. Meow Meow will play Mrs Lovett, offering a distinctive interpretation of the infamous pie maker.

The revival is scheduled to run from 4 July to 9 August 2026, forming part of a significant season of productions announced by the venue. Additional casting and creative team members will be revealed in due course.

This staging of Sweeney Todd adds to Birmingham Rep’s tradition of mounting ambitious musical theatre, reinforcing its profile as a key regional theatre presenting contemporary and classic works.

The announcement highlights ongoing interest in Sondheim’s legacy and musical theatre’s dynamic casting choices, spotlighting performers such as Karimloo and Meow Meow in leading roles.
