To Kill a Mockingbird returns to West End with Richard Coyle as Atticus Finch
Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is returning to the West End this summer, following its ongoing UK tour. The production, directed by Bartlett Sher, will run from June to September at Wyndham’s Theatre.
To Kill a Mockingbird will return to the West End with a new season running from 25 June to 12 September at Wyndham’s Theatre on Charing Cross Road. Tickets for the run go on sale tomorrow, with further casting details to be announced in due course.
The stage adaptation by Aaron Sorkin is based on Harper Lee’s iconic 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, which explores racial injustice through the eyes of the small-town lawyer Atticus Finch. The production was first staged in the West End in 2022 before launching a tour in September 2023, beginning in Leeds and currently playing in Dublin.
The UK and Ireland tour is led by Richard Coyle as Atticus Finch, who will reprise his role for the West End return. The tour will continue next year with stops including Belfast, Plymouth, Canterbury, Southampton, Birmingham, Newcastle, Norwich, Liverpool, and Milton Keynes.
The creative team behind the show includes director Bartlett Sher, associate director Louisa Muller, set designer Miriam Buether, costume designer Ann Roth, lighting designer Jennifer Tipton, sound designer Scott Lehrer, and musical supervisor Kimberley Grigsby. Adam Guettel provides the original score, with Campbell Young Associates handling hair and wigs design.
The production previously earned nine Tony Award nominations when it premiered on Broadway, winning one. It was praised for translating the novel’s enduring themes into theatre with a contemporary lens.
With the West End season drawing together the tour’s lead and a distinguished creative team, To Kill a Mockingbird’s return highlights the continued resonance of Lee’s work in the current cultural landscape.
