Operation Mincemeat extends West End run to February 2027
The WhatsOnStage Award-winning musical comedy Operation Mincemeat will continue its West End engagement until 20 February 2027, following the announcement of an extension as the production prepares to launch its first UK tour.
Operation Mincemeat, a musical comedy based on the true story of the secret mission that helped win World War II, recently celebrated 1,000 shows in London’s West End. The production, which had developmental runs at the New Diorama Theatre, Southwark Playhouse and Riverside Studios, will now play at the Fortune Theatre until February 2027.
Written and composed by David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoë Roberts of SpitLip, the show blends history with comedy in a musical format that has also found success on Broadway. The company embarks on its first UK tour in Salford on the same night the West End run is extended.
Directed by Robert Hastie, known for Standing at the Sky’s Edge, with choreography by Jenny Arnold of Jerry Springer: The Opera, the production has attracted notable attention in theatre circles. Hastie had previously supported the London run at Riverside Studios before taking the helm for the West End season.
The cast at the Fortune Theatre includes WhatsOnStage nominee Alex Young as Ewen Montagu, alongside Roshani Abbey, Danny Becker, Peter McGovern and Chlöe Hart in key roles. The ensemble is further strengthened by Jason Kajdi, George Jennings, Geri Allen and Madeleine Jackson-Smith.
Tickets for the new West End booking period will go on sale from 10 March 2026. Meanwhile, the touring show aims to bring the musical’s unique blend of history and humour to audiences outside London for the first time.
Operation Mincemeat’s expansion reflects a growing appetite for musical theatre that balances wartime intrigue with playful storytelling, a trend visible in recent successful transfers and adaptations across the UK and internationally.
