Andrew Scott to Star in Sea Wall New York Run and Film Project

Andrew Scott will headline a two-week run of Simon Stephens’ one-man play Sea Wall at Studio Seaview in New York this October. The entire run will be filmed as a feature by director Tina Satter, capturing both the performance and the production’s creation.

Andrew Scott is set to perform all 19 shows of Sea Wall at Studio Seaview from 16 to 30 October. The short monologue, written specifically for Scott by Simon Stephens, explores the anguish of a photographer grappling with the sudden loss of his child while on holiday.

Unusually, each performance will be filmed by Tina Satter, known for her work on Is This A Room, resulting in a hybrid film capturing the play alongside insights into its making. Paul Yee serves as director of photography, while Parker Lutz advises on production design.

The theatrical production features the lighting design of Isabella Byrd and the sound design of Ben Williams. Scott’s involvement continues a long association; he first performed Sea Wall at London’s Bush Theatre in 2008 and returned to it various times, including a filmed lockdown version in 2020.

Although Sea Wall had its New York premiere in 2019 starring Tom Sturridge, Scott’s current run marks his return to the piece stateside. Among his recent accolades, Scott was recognised with Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel, and New York Drama Critics Circle Awards for his 2025 performance in Vanya at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

Scott made his Broadway debut in 2006 in David Hare’s The Vertical Hour. This new project with Sea Wall meshes theatre and film in an intimate experiment on capturing live performance.

The filming of Sea Wall amid its live run reflects growing interest in documenting stage work in accessible formats, providing audiences insights into the realities behind theatrical creation.
