Theatre designers auction original works to support Gaza baby formula fund

More than 150 theatre creatives and artists have donated original artworks to the second Stage Designers and Artists Auction for Gaza, raising funds for the Gaza Formula Fund. The event opens at the Bush Theatre on 26 October, aiming to provide crucial supplies to infants and families in Gaza.

The auction features work linked to productions such as Billy Elliot, Oliver!, The Hunger Games, Cyrano de Bergerac, Titanique, Hamlet: Hail to the Thief, Monty Python’s Spamalot, Game of Thrones: The Mad King, and Lily Allen’s West End Girl. Contributors include renowned figures like Christine Jones, Rufus Norris, Tim Hatley, Lesa Amoore, Rae Smith, Ian MacNeil, Grace Smart, John Keane, Rosanna Vize, Jasleen Kaur, Anthony Ward, Miriam Buether, Mark Thompson, Vicki Mortimer, Anna Fleischle, and Lez Brotherston.

Items up for auction range from artwork, costume designs, photography, prints, sketches, puppets, props, to ceramics—all signed by their creators. This year’s auction includes contributions not only from stage designers but also from photographers and ceramicists, expanding the range of creative works available.

The auction launches in person at the Bush Theatre on 26 October before moving online via GalaBid, where it will run until 9 November 2026. All proceeds will support the Gaza Formula Fund’s efforts providing infant formula, nappies, clean water, food, and other essentials to babies, children, and families impacted by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Founded in 2025 by London-based stage designer Georgia Lowe and Gaza-based father Izziddeen, the Gaza Formula Fund operates under the UK-registered Small Steps Project charity. The fund has already distributed over 9,000 tins of formula milk and 150,000 nappies while raising more than £500,000 in support.

Izziddeen said: “Borders and vast distances separate us, but shared feelings and humanitarian motives unite us. This auction is a remarkable act of solidarity for the children of Gaza, who desperately need food and the most basic necessities.”

Lowe expressed pride in the theatre and arts community for uniting again, saying, “The talent represented in this auction is astounding and I look forward to giving the public access to a huge variety of unique works that are rarely accessible to them.”

Last year’s inaugural auction raised more than £32,000, marking a significant contribution to the fund’s work amid a continuing crisis. The event reflects a growing trend of creative industries mobilising charitable action to respond to global humanitarian needs.
