The Notebook musical to make UK debut at Judi Dench Theatre in 2027
The stage adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook will open in London’s West End at the newly renamed Judi Dench Theatre in 2027, marking the show’s UK premiere. This follows its Broadway debut in 2024 and coincides with the 30th anniversary of the novel’s publication.
The Notebook musical, based on Sparks’ 1996 novel, will be the inaugural production at the theatre previously known as the Shaftesbury Theatre. Previews are scheduled to begin on 10 March 2027, with an official opening night on 13 April, and bookings currently running until 11 December 2027.
The story charts the enduring romance of Allie and Noah, two lovers from different backgrounds who are repeatedly separated but ultimately find their way back to each other. The book for the musical is by Bekah Brunstetter, with music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson.
Direction is shared by Michael Greif and Schele Williams, while choreography is by Katie Spelman. The creative team also features music supervision and arrangements by Carmel Dean, scenic design by David Zinn and Brett J Banakis, and costume design by Paloma Young.
Lighting design is by Ben Stanton, with sound design by Nevin Steinberg and hair and wig design by Mia Neal. Orchestrations are handled by John Clancy and Dean, with co-vocal arrangements by Michaelson and Dean, and music direction by Jim Henson. Casting is by Jill Green Casting.
The musical previously debuted on Broadway in 2024, where Michaelson received a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theatre Album. The show draws from the novel famously adapted into a 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
Tickets for the London run are priced from £20, with 50,000 available at £50 or under, and standing tickets at £15. Producers Kevin McCollum, Kurt Deutsch and Jamie Wilson Productions are presenting the show.
Nicholas Sparks reflected on the milestone, noting the global impact of the novel and expressing excitement for this new stage iteration. Both Michaelson and Brunstetter have spoken of the honour in revisiting and expanding the story for a London audience and the collaboration behind the production.
Casting details for the UK production will be announced in due course, as the musical prepares to bring this timeless love story to the West End.
