Back to the Future the Musical confirms extended UK tour dates for 2027
Back to the Future the Musical is set to open its first UK tour in Bristol in October 2026, with new performances added in Manchester and Plymouth for summer 2027. The extension highlights the enduring popularity of the stage adaptation of the iconic 1985 film.
Back to the Future the Musical, currently running in London’s West End at the Adelphi Theatre where it will close in April 2026, will launch its inaugural UK tour starting in Bristol in October 2026. The producers have now announced an additional two months of performances next year, including dates at Manchester Opera House from 13 July to 21 August 2027 and Plymouth Theatre Royal from 24 August to 11 September 2027.
The musical is based on the 1985 Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film which starred Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr Emmett Brown. The stage adaptation was written by Bob Gale and features new songs by Emmy and Grammy winner Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy winner Glen Ballard, alongside classics from the film like “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B Goode.”
Directed by Tony Award-winner John Rando, the production includes set and costume design by Tim Hatley, choreography by Chris Bailey, and illusions by Chris Fisher. The creative team also features lighting designers Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Gareth Owen, and video design by Finn Ross.
Since its first preview run in Manchester in 2020, the show has won multiple awards, including Best New Musical at both the WhatsOnStage and Olivier Awards. The 2027 return to Manchester marks a notable full-circle moment for the production.
Internationally, Back to the Future the Musical has been staged in North America, Japan, and on Royal Caribbean Cruises, with further productions planned in Australia and Germany. To date, it has been seen by over four million people worldwide.
The original Back to the Future film celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025 and grossed $360.6 million globally. The trilogy pulled in nearly $937 million, or over $1.8 billion adjusted for inflation, establishing its place as a cultural touchstone centred on Marty McFly, Doc Brown, and their time-travelling DeLorean.
The announcement of extended tour dates underscores the continued demand for live musical theatre adaptations of beloved film franchises and builds on the show’s award-winning West End presence.
