Ben Platt leads UK premiere of Mark Sonnenblick’s Midnight at the Never Get
Ben Platt will star in the London debut of Midnight at the Never Get, a new musical by award-winning writer Mark Sonnenblick, with confirmed co-stars and creative team revealed for the Menier Chocolate Factory production.
Ben Platt is set to headline the UK premiere of Midnight at the Never Get, a new musical opening at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Set in New York in 1965, the story centres on the secret nightclub romance between Trevor Copeland and Arthur Brightman, who perform songs together in an underground act.
The book, music, and lyrics are by Mark Sonnenblick, an Oscar, Golden Globe, and Grammy Award-winner. He earned acclaim for his work on KPop Demon Hunters and previously collaborated with Platt on Theater Camp. Sonnenblick said the show holds deep personal significance and praised Platt as a “once-in-a-generation performer.”
Gregor Milne and Barry James will join Platt in the production, which is directed by David Cromer. The creative team also includes Scott Pask on set design, Jonathan Lipman responsible for costumes, Heather Gilbert on lighting, Paul Groothuis handling sound design, and Andrew Resnick overseeing musical supervision and orchestration.
Midnight at the Never Get explores themes of forbidden love and artistic expression in a historically charged New York setting. The production promises an intimate take on its characters’ relationship against the backdrop of a clandestine nightlife.
With this assembly of high-profile talent, the Menier Chocolate Factory offering aims to bring Sonnenblick’s vibrant score and story to a London audience, continuing the synergy between Platt and Sonnenblick established in their prior work.
Further details about ticketing and run dates are to be confirmed, but the announcement has generated significant anticipation around this UK musical premiere.
