Birmingham Rep unveils full cast for new production of The Snowman including Paddington designer

Birmingham Rep has revealed the complete cast and creative team for its forthcoming production of The Snowman, which will premiere at the House in Birmingham in October 2026 before transferring to the West End’s Peacock Theatre. The show features costume design by Tahra Zafar, famed for her work on Paddington The Musical.

Birmingham Rep’s new staging of The Snowman will run at the House from 20 October to 1 November 2026, with a press night on 29 October, before moving to the Peacock Theatre from 21 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. Will Tuckett directs and choreographs the production.

The role of The Boy will be shared by Felix Anderson, Jake Durant, Tristan Marwa and Tate Masuku. The ensemble cast also includes Teague Applegate, Andrew Ashton, Serafina Sofia Barbieri, Ross Black, Natasha Chu, Eleanor Copping, Kynda Ng, Alice O’Brien, Andrii Osadchyi, Suzy Osadchyi, Ben Randall and Aaron Smyth.

Tahra Zafar joins as the Snowman costume designer, bringing her award-winning experience from Paddington The Musical, and previous work on Star Wars Episode VII, Lady Gaga’s Monster Tour and the London 2012 Olympic ceremonies.

The production’s design team features Anna Fleischle as designer, Nina Dunn of PixelLux on video design, Chris Fisher on illusions, and Daisy Beattie on puppetry. Lighting is by Matt Daw, sound by Kelsh Buckman-Drage, flying direction by Floyd Hughes and Adam Bailey from Flying by Foy, and casting by Amy Beadel of Grindrod Burton Casting.

Additional creative roles include Emma Brunton as associate puppetry director, Keziah Ferguson as associate production designer, and Paul James Rooney as assistant director and choreographer.

Based on Raymond Briggs’ iconic wordless picture book and featuring Howard Blake’s memorable score including “Walking in the Air,” The Snowman was first staged by Birmingham Rep in 1993. It became the theatre’s longest-running production, toured nationally, and held a 29-year seasonal residency at the Peacock Theatre.

Will Tuckett expressed excitement about the collaboration: “With the brilliant Tahra Zafar joining the incredible team of creatives, we have everyone we need to shape this magical world into what will be a truly spectacular new staging.”

Birmingham Rep artistic director Joe Murphy highlighted the production’s significance: “The Snowman has a very special place in the history of The Rep…this freshly-minted production looks set to thrill the next generation.”
