Bowen Yang to make Broadway debut as Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary!

Bowen Yang will star as Mary Todd Lincoln in the Broadway comedy Oh, Mary! this autumn, marking his debut on the New York stage. The Saturday Night Live performer joins a celebrated cast in a Tony Award-winning production already running at the Lyceum Theatre.

Bowen Yang will take over the lead role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary! at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre from 15 September 2026 for a limited 12-week engagement. He succeeds Meg Stalter, who finishes on 12 September, with Hannah Solow playing Mary for a single performance on 13 September before Yang’s debut.

Yang, known for his work on Saturday Night Live and as co-host of the Las Culturistas podcast, joins a noteworthy line-up of performers who have portrayed Mary Todd Lincoln in the show. Previous actors in the role include playwright Cole Escola, Betty Gilpin, Tituss Burgess, Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski, John Cameron Mitchell, Maya Rudolph, and Stalter.

The production is written by Cole Escola and directed by Sam Pinkleton. Oh, Mary! originally opened on Broadway in July 2024 and has since won a Tony Award. It also continues its run in London’s West End at the Trafalgar Theatre and is set to tour North America later in the year.

Yang praised the artistic collaboration behind the show, describing Oh, Mary! as a “deranged and profound masterpiece” and expressing gratitude for making his Broadway debut in such a unique production.

Alongside Yang, the cast features Phillip James Brannon as Mary’s Husband, Barrett Foa as Mary’s Teacher, Bianca Leigh as Mary’s Chaperone, and original cast member Tony Macht as the Teacher’s Assistant.

Producers have announced a new booking period for Oh, Mary!, with tickets now available through 10 July 2027, extending the Tony-winning comedy’s presence at the Lyceum Theatre beyond its initial limited run.
