Brian Conley to play Doc Brown in Back to the Future UK tour stop
Brian Conley will join the first UK tour of Back to the Future The Musical, taking on the role of Doc Brown at Milton Keynes Theatre in February 2027. This marks a notable addition to the touring cast of the award-winning musical adaptation of the iconic 1985 film.
Brian Conley is set to play Doc Brown at Milton Keynes Theatre from 9 to 27 February 2027 during the UK tour of Back to the Future The Musical. He will perform alongside Axel Duffy, who plays Marty McFly. Conley will not appear on 13 and 14 February 2027.
The tour, opening in Bristol in October, follows the production’s West End run at the Adelphi Theatre, which concluded in April. Roger Bart, who originated the role of Doc Brown on stage in the West End, Broadway and internationally, will open the tour at the Bristol Hippodrome and perform at the Edinburgh Playhouse.
Back to the Future The Musical is based on the 1985 Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. The stage adaptation includes new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy winner Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy winner Glen Ballard, featuring classics like “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B Goode.”
The production is directed by Tony Award-winner John Rando, with design by Tim Hatley, choreography by Chris Bailey, and illusions by Chris Fisher. Lighting is by Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone, with sound by Gareth Owen and video design by Finn Ross. Musical supervision is by Nick Finlow, orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, and casting handled by David Grindrod.
Back to Future The Musical has garnered multiple awards, including WhatsOnStage and Olivier Awards for Best New Musical. It has been staged internationally in Australia, North America, Japan and aboard Royal Caribbean Cruises, reaching over four million spectators worldwide.
The original film, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025, grossed $360.6 million globally, with the trilogy earning nearly $937 million in total, roughly equivalent to $1.8 billion today. The story of Marty, Doc Brown and the time-travelling DeLorean remains a cultural touchstone.
