Craig Revel Horwood, Zoe Birkett and Paul Chuckle lead Sister Act UK tour cast

Craig Revel Horwood, Zoe Birkett and Paul Chuckle have been confirmed as the principal cast for the upcoming UK and Ireland tour of Sister Act The Musical, which opens in September 2027. The casting news outlines notable absences across certain venues and signals key developments for the production’s national run.

The UK and Ireland tour of Sister Act The Musical will begin at New Wimbledon Theatre on 11 September 2027, with Craig Revel Horwood playing Mother Superior, Paul Chuckle as Monsignor O’Hara, and Zoe Birkett in the role of Deloris Van Cartier at selected locations. Further casting still awaits announcement for parts of the tour.

Revel Horwood’s involvement as Mother Superior excludes the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend and the Alexandra in Birmingham, where that role is yet to be cast. Both Revel Horwood and Birkett will be absent from the performances at Cardiff, Nottingham, Brighton, Dartford, Plymouth, Hull, Southampton, Belfast, Derry and Oxford, with casting for these venues forthcoming.

Sister Act follows the story of disco singer Deloris Van Cartier, who goes into protective custody at a convent after witnessing a murder. While there, she revitalises the struggling choir and rediscovers her own voice.

The musical’s score features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, with a book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, alongside additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane. The production is directed by Bill Buckhurst, with choreography by Alistair David.

Creative design elements include set and costume design by Morgan Large, lighting design by Tim Mitchell, sound design by Tom Marshall, and musical supervision by Stephen Brooker. Jamie Wilson is credited as the producer and casting is handled by Pearson Casting.

This touring production follows Sister Act’s enduring popularity as a stage musical and its legacy stemming from the original 1992 film. The selective casting choices and venue-specific roster highlight the logistical complexity of large-scale tours.

Further cast announcements are expected to provide clarity on other principal roles and supporting characters as the tour approaches its opening, mapping out Sister Act’s presence across UK and Irish theatres.
