Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Warriors announces full Broadway cast for March debut
The Broadway premiere of Warriors, a new musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis, has revealed its initial cast ahead of performances starting 9 March at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The production adapts the cult film The Warriors and follows a New York gang’s perilous journey after being framed for murder.
Warriors opens its run at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on 9 March, with an official opening night set for 8 April. The show is inspired by the 1979 Paramount film The Warriors, the original novel by Sol Yurick, and a 2024 concept album by Miranda and Davis.
The storyline follows a New York City gang as they move from Coney Island through the Bronx and back, trying to clear their name after being falsely accused of killing a rival gang leader. The musical is directed by Jenny Koons and co-directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler.
Jaci Calderon takes the lead role Fox, replacing Phillipa Soo from the concept album, alongside Aneesa Folds as Cleon and Amber Gray as Ajax. Other principal cast members include Julia Harriman (Mercy), Sasha Hutchings (Cowgirl), Gizel Jiménez (Rembrandt), Jasmine Cephas Jones (Swan), and Kenita R. Miller (Cochise).
Sasha Allen, Casey Likes, and Donald Webber Jr. join the cast as Cyrus, Luther, and Masai respectively, roles previously performed on the album by Lauryn Hill, Kim Dracula, and Colman Domingo. Likes performs a different character than on the recording.
The creative team behind Warriors includes scenic designer David Korins, costume designer Dede Ayite, lighting designer Natasha Katz, sound designer Jason Crystal, and projection designer Hana S Kim. Music supervision is led by Kurt Crowley, with orchestrations by Crowley, Scott Wasserman, and Mike Elizondo.
The production showcases a blend of Miranda’s musical style and Davis’s storytelling, with the musical’s narrative deeply rooted in the source material’s gritty urban tale. The presentation is expected to bring a fresh theatrical perspective to the well-known story of survival and loyalty on the streets of New York.
