I’m Sorry, Prime Minister announces UK tour with Simon Rouse and Clive Francis
The political satire I’m Sorry, Prime Minister, written and directed by Jonathan Lynn, will embark on a UK tour following its current West End run. The casting includes Simon Rouse as Jim Hacker and Clive Francis reprising Sir Humphrey Appleby.
I’m Sorry, Prime Minister is set to tour the UK after completing its West End run, which ends on 9 May 2026. The play, co-directed by Michael Gyngell, revisits the retired political figures of Jim Hacker and Sir Humphrey Appleby navigating their post-office lives.
Simon Rouse takes on the role of ex-Prime Minister Jim Hacker, while Clive Francis returns as Sir Humphrey Appleby, a part he has performed both at the Barn Theatre and in the West End production. Princess Donnough continues her role as Sophie, also reprising her West End performance. Additional tour casting is yet to be announced.
The tour will open at the Arts Theatre Cambridge from 19 to 23 May, before moving through Richmond Theatre, Theatre Royal Bath, New Victoria Theatre, Marlowe Theatre, Everyman Theatre Cheltenham, Milton Keynes Theatre, and Grand Opera House York. It will conclude at Malvern Theatres on 1 August.
The creative team behind the production includes set and costume designer Lee Newby, lighting designer Mark Henderson, and sound designers Ben and Max Ringham. Marc Frankum serves as the casting director.
I’m Sorry, Prime Minister premiered in 2023 at the Barn Theatre and previously toured Theatre Royal Bath and Cambridge Arts Theatre before transferring to the West End. The play serves as a conclusion to the political satire series originally created by Jonathan Lynn and Antony Jay.
The original TV series Yes Minister and Yes, Prime Minister was broadcast by the BBC between 1980 and 1988, starring Paul Eddington and Nigel Hawthorne, and won multiple BAFTA Awards. The stage adaptation debuted in 2010 and has since toured nationally as well as enjoyed a West End transfer.
