Lolly Adefope to Make West End Debut in Olivier-Winning Oh, Mary!

BAFTA nominee Lolly Adefope will star in the West End production of Oh, Mary!, a wartime comedy about Mary Todd Lincoln. The play, which won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play, runs at the Trafalgar Theatre from late September.

Lolly Adefope is set to make her West End debut in Oh, Mary!, beginning a 10-week season from 28 September to 5 December at the Trafalgar Theatre. The play centres on Mary Todd Lincoln, a bored alcoholic housewife dreaming of the cabaret stage while at odds with her closeted gay husband, the President of the United States.

Oh, Mary! is the creation of Cole Escola, whose riotous comedy has been described by WhatsOnStage as “80 minutes of perfectly judged silliness.” The production originally premiered off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in January 2024 before transferring to Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre later that year.

The West End premiere took place in December 2025, where the production earned the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play at the 2026 ceremony. It has also been filmed in the West End, extending its audience beyond the theatre.

Adefope follows Cole Escola, who originated the role in the West End, and Jinkx Monsoon, who reprised her Broadway performance. The full cast for Adefope’s run has yet to be announced.

Creative leadership includes director Sam Pinkleton, with a design team featuring dots on scenic design, Holly Pierson on costumes, Cha See handling lighting, and Daniel Kluger and Drew Levy on sound. The creative team is supported by a line-up of associate creatives across direction, design, and music.

As Oh, Mary! continues its West End presence, its blend of historical farce and contemporary comedy adds a peculiar twist to the wartime narrative, marked by its Olivier recognition and growing popularity among London audiences.
