Mamma Mia! announces Mark Goldthorp as new Bill at Novello Theatre

Mamma Mia! has confirmed that Mark Goldthorp will join the West End cast as Bill from 24 August, replacing Tamlyn Henderson. The long-running hit at the Novello Theatre continues to update its lineup amid ongoing performances.

The beloved musical Mamma Mia!, currently staged at the Novello Theatre, has announced a casting change with Mark Goldthorp set to take over the role of Bill starting on 24 August. Goldthorp replaces Tamlyn Henderson, who had been announced for the part but is stepping down ahead of Henderson’s involvement in the musical adaptation of Thelma & Louise.

Mamma Mia! features music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, a book by Catherine Johnson, direction by Phyllida Lloyd and choreography by Anthony Van Laast. The show remains a staple of the West End, continuing to draw audiences with its hit songs and sunny storyline.

The cast includes Sara Poyzer as Donna, reprising the role she has played for over 12 years on stage and tour, alongside Kate Graham as Tanya and Nicky Swift as Rosie. Other cast members are Richard Standing as Sam, Daniel Crowder as Harry, Ellie Kingdon as Sophie, George Maddison as Sky, Chloe Gentles as Ali, Foxy Valentine as Lisa, Joshua de La-Garde as Eddie and Benjamin Dawson as Pepper.

Emma Odell provides cover for Donna on certain performances, maintaining the show’s seamless continuity. The arrival of Goldthorp as Bill continues the production’s trend of refreshing the cast while sustaining its core ensemble.

This update comes as the West End Live 2026 schedule was recently announced, marking a period of ongoing activity and development for London’s musical theatre scene. Mamma Mia! remains one of the enduring hits of the decade, with its casting adjustments and steady presence at the Novello Theatre underscoring its lasting appeal.
