Posi Morakinyo and Asha Parker-Wallace join West End cast of The Lion King

The Lion King has announced new leads for its long-running London production, with Posi Morakinyo and Asha Parker-Wallace set to play Simba and Nala from 5 May 2026. Their casting marks a notable reunion after both appeared in the Almeida Theatre’s American Psycho.

Posi Morakinyo and Asha Parker-Wallace will assume the iconic main roles of Simba and Nala at the Lyceum Theatre, taking over from Tuesday 5 May 2026. The pair recently appeared together in the Almeida Theatre’s American Psycho, a connection they will now continue on the celebrated West End stage.

Morakinyo expressed enthusiasm about his casting, saying it is “an honour to be taking on the role of Simba” and that he is “excited to start this new adventure” alongside Parker-Wallace. Meanwhile, Parker-Wallace, a WhatsOnStage Awards nominee, described playing the iconic roles together as a “dream.”

Joining Morakinyo and Parker-Wallace are Stuart Neal as Timon, Michael Jeremiah as Banzai, and Simone Robinson as Sarabi. The company is further bolstered by ensemble performers Raul Reinoso, Steve Cornwall, Gabrielle de Souza, Lindokuhle Thabede, Marcellus Whyte, and Shayna McPherson.

The Lion King musical is directed by Julie Taymor and opened on Broadway in 1997. It transferred to London’s West End in 1999 and has continued its run at the Lyceum Theatre ever since.

The production features music by Elton John and Tim Rice, with additional contributions from Lebo M, Mark Mancina, and Taymor herself. It has become a staple of London theatre, well known for its inventive staging and rich musical score.

This latest cast update maintains the show’s tradition of talent and energy, continuing the legacy of a production that has captivated London audiences for more than two decades.
