Secret Cinema announces flagship immersive venue at Greenwich Peninsula

Secret Cinema is set to open a long-term flagship venue at Greenwich Peninsula near the O2, aiming to create a permanent home for its large-scale immersive productions. The development marks a new chapter for the company, which has staged over 60 events worldwide.

Secret Cinema has revealed plans to establish a purpose-built venue on Greenwich Peninsula, close to North Greenwich station and the Thames. The new space is designed to host the company’s immersive film and television experiences, allowing audiences to step into detailed recreations of iconic worlds.

Since its founding 18 years ago, Secret Cinema has produced more than 60 immersive events in cities including London and Shanghai. These have ranged from Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical—which returns this summer—to adaptations of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Dirty Dancing, Stranger Things and Casino Royale.

The proposed venue aims to provide a permanent base for Secret Cinema’s productions, contrasting with the company’s previous model of staging temporary events in various locations. Secret Cinema plans to remain at the Greenwich site for up to a decade, subject to planning permission.

Merritt Baer, artistic director and producer at Secret Cinema, described Greenwich Peninsula as the “perfect location” for the company’s flagship home, expressing excitement about delivering “world-class immersive experiences” and engaging with local businesses.

The venue is part of a broader cultural development in the area, which will also see the construction of two Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula venues with 1,500-seat capacities each. Laura Flanagan, director at Greenwich Peninsula, welcomed Secret Cinema’s arrival as a boost to the neighbourhood’s reputation for culture and entertainment.

Subject to planning approval, Secret Cinema targets a late 2026 opening for the new venue. The site is expected to attract visitors from across London and beyond, reinforcing the company’s position as a leading innovator in immersive entertainment.
