Shedinburgh to transfer to Young Vic after expanded Edinburgh Fringe season

Francesca Moody Productions’ Shedinburgh will return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2026 before transferring to the Young Vic in London for its first season outside Edinburgh. The move highlights the project’s growth and continued support for UK and Irish artists.

Shedinburgh will take place at the new Assembly Checkpoint venue in Edinburgh from 7 to 30 August 2026, expanding its programme to over 70 shows across theatre, comedy and music. Following the Fringe, the project will move to the Maria Studio at the Young Vic from 19 September to 10 October, showcasing more than 40 selected shows from the Edinburgh run.

The 2026 festival edition will feature curated strands from Forest Fringe, returning after a decade with a two-day programme, and Birmingham Hippodrome’s new musical theatre department presenting work across two days. Shed Originals will also grow through partnerships with the Abbey Theatre, Theatr Clwyd, The Lowry and Traverse Theatre, supporting new work from mid-career artists across the UK and Ireland.

Shedinburgh operates a model offering financial guarantees, travel and accommodation support to artists alongside Pay What You Can ticketing. This approach extends to Shed Originals, which provides paid collaboration opportunities culminating in work-in-progress sharings in both Edinburgh and London.

Originally a digital project during the Fringe cancellation, Shedinburgh evolved into a live venue featuring 36 performances in 2025. Previous contributors include Richard Gadd, Steve Coogan, Tobias Menzies and Sophie Duker.

Alongside Shedinburgh’s main programme, Francesca Moody Productions will present Garry Starr: Classic Penguins at the Pleasance Grand and The Scaring by Crybabies during the 2026 Fringe, both running from 5 to 30 August.

Full details for Shedinburgh 2026 will be announced in May, when tickets will also go on sale. The initiative underscores ongoing efforts to create sustainable artist-led programming within the UK festival circuit.
