Stephen Mangan joins Kristin Scott Thomas in The Cherry Orchard West End cast
Further casting has been announced for Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, which stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Stephen Mangan and will run at the Harold Pinter Theatre in autumn 2026. The news adds new faces to a high-profile team presenting a fresh adaptation by Conor McPherson.
Stephen Mangan has been confirmed to play Lopakhin opposite Kristin Scott Thomas as Lyubov Ranevskaya in The Cherry Orchard at the Harold Pinter Theatre. The production, adapted by Conor McPherson and directed by Ian Rickson, will run from 3 October 2026 until 9 January 2027, with a press night on 13 October.
The rest of the cast includes Ruby Bentall as Sharlotta, Megan Cusack as Dunyasha, Karl Johnson as Firs, Noof Ousellam as Yasha, Nadia Parkes as Anya, Jack Riddiford as Trofimov, Vinette Robinson as Varya, Shubham Saraf as Yepikhodov, and Peter Wight as Gaev. Additional casting is yet to be confirmed.
Mangan reunites with director Ian Rickson following their work together on The Birthday Party in 2018. Rickson also previously directed Scott Thomas in The Seagull, a production that earned her an Olivier Award for Best Actress.
The creative team for the production features set designer Chloe Lamford, costume designer Sussie Juhlin-Wallén, lighting designer Bruno Poet, sound designer Tom Gibbons, composer Stephen Warbeck, movement director Shelley Maxwell, and casting director Amy Ball.
Rickson and McPherson’s collaboration dates back to productions of The Weir and Uncle Vanya. This adaptation will revisit Chekhov’s final play, which centres on Ranevskaya’s return to her family estate and her struggle against the socio-economic changes threatening the cherry orchard.
The Cherry Orchard is produced in the West End by Sonia Friedman Productions alongside Winkler and Smalberg, adding to their extensive portfolio of contemporary and classic theatre productions.
