Sylvia announces full UK tour cast with new lead Naomi Katiyo
The musical Sylvia, celebrating the life of activist Sylvia Pankhurst, has confirmed its full cast for a UK tour launching in autumn 2026. A new lead will take on the title role for this limited run, which includes a residency at the Royal Albert Hall.
Sylvia will return to the stage in autumn 2026, embarking on a limited UK tour before a short residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The production centres on Sylvia Pankhurst’s activism for working-class causes worldwide, highlighting the family conflicts that shaped her journey.
Naomi Katiyo joins the cast as Sylvia Pankhurst, replacing Sharon Rose, who has withdrawn from the production. Beverley Knight will reprise her Olivier Award-winning role as Emmeline Pankhurst, Sylvia’s mother.
The musical’s score is composed by Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, blending hip hop, funk, and soul. Kate Prince of ZooNation serves as director and choreographer, bringing her distinctive style to the show’s dynamic storytelling.
A 14-track album, Sylvia – The Essentials, produced by Grammy winner Martin Terefe and released by ZooNation Records, is available for listeners, offering a taste of the show’s vibrant musical landscape.
New artwork for the tour has been released, with photos by Feast Creative accompanying the announcement. Details on additional cast members have been confirmed but are not specified.
Sylvia’s story continues to resonate as it highlights lesser-known aspects of the suffragette movement, focusing on working people’s struggles and global activism through the lens of a key historical figure.
The production underscores a growing trend in theatre to explore political history through contemporary music and dance forms, offering new ways to engage audiences with social justice themes.
