The Play That Goes Wrong cast joins Comic Relief with special sketch

The cast of The Play That Goes Wrong will feature in this year’s Comic Relief broadcast on 20 March, offering viewers comedic ways to donate as part of the charity event. The sketch is set to air during the programme on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.

The long-running West End production The Play That Goes Wrong has filmed a special sketch for this year’s Comic Relief, airing this evening as part of the charity’s televised event starting at 7pm. The current cast will appear in the segment presenting humorous donation options to viewers.

The production continues its run at the Duchess Theatre, where it has been staged since September 2014. The Play That Goes Wrong originally premiered at the Old Red Lion Theatre before transferring to the West End in 2014.

Created by Mischief Theatre, a company founded by recent drama school graduates, the play combines physical comedy and theatrical mishaps. This involvement in Comic Relief highlights the show’s ongoing public engagement beyond the stage.

The current cast includes Izzy Edmunds-Clarke as Annie, Jack Hardwick as Chris, Robert Jackson as Robert, Jonty Peach as Jonathan, Charlotte Scott as Sandra, Mitesh Soni as Dennis, Tom Wainwright as Max, and Ronnie Yorke as Trevor. An actor known as Winston the dog may also make an appearance.

Supporting players and understudies for the show are Alex Blackie, Jake Burgum, Kitty Devlin, Louise Hoare and Ed Shamwana. Their inclusion suggests a broad company prepared to represent the production’s chaotic charm.

Comic Relief’s broadcast will be available both live on BBC One and through BBC iPlayer, continuing the tradition of blending comedy with charitable fundraising. The Play That Goes Wrong segment is part of a wider roster of performances and appeals throughout the evening.
