Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Rocky Horror Show about?

The Rocky Horror Show is a cult rock musical about squeaky-clean couple Brad and Janet, whose car breaks down and leads them to the mysterious home of Dr Frank‑N‑Furter. Inside they meet eccentric Transylvanians, witness the creation of Rocky and are swept into a night of sci‑fi, sexuality and rock ’n’ roll, with iconic songs like Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite.

Where is The Rocky Horror Show playing in Cardiff?

In Cardiff, The Rocky Horror Show is playing at the New Theatre on Park Place, CF10 3LN. The New Theatre is in the city centre, close to Queen Street and Cathays railway stations, major bus routes and plenty of bars and restaurants.

When is The Rocky Horror Show in Cardiff?

The Cardiff run is scheduled from Monday 1 June to Saturday 6 June 2026 as part of the 2026 world and UK tour. Performances take place on each of these days, giving multiple opportunities to catch the show while it is at the New Theatre.

What are the performance times in Cardiff?

Listings show performances across the week, generally with evening shows around 7:30 pm and occasional matinees on certain days, for example on Friday or Saturday. Because times can vary, always check the specific start time shown for your chosen date when you book.

How long is The Rocky Horror Show?

The Rocky Horror Show typically runs for about 2 hours including an interval. This allows enough time for all the story and musical numbers while still finishing early enough to travel home comfortably after a weekday performance.

Has The Rocky Horror Show won any awards?

The original London stage production won the 1973 Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Musical and has received Olivier Award recognition as a notable revival. The film version, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has been honoured by the National Film Registry and other organisations for its lasting cultural impact and cult status.

Is The Rocky Horror Show suitable for children?

The show includes strong sexual innuendo, cross‑dressing, partial nudity, adult language and suggestive choreography, so it is aimed at older teens and adults. It is generally not suitable for young children, and under‑16s should only attend with an accompanying adult and with awareness of the mature content.

Do people dress up and participate at the Cardiff performances?

Yes, dressing up and audience participation are a big part of the Rocky Horror experience, and Cardiff audiences are encouraged to join in. Many fans attend in fishnets, corsets and character‑inspired outfits, and you can expect call‑backs, singing along and dancing the Time Warp, as long as you follow the theatre’s guidelines on props and behaviour.

How can I get cheap tickets for The Rocky Horror Show in Cardiff?

To find cheaper tickets, consider midweek performances between Monday and Thursday, which often have lower starting prices than Friday and Saturday nights. Choosing seats further from the stage or to the sides of the auditorium instead of premium central stalls can also reduce the cost while still offering a good view.

Are there discounts or concessions available?

Some ticket sellers offer concessions for students, seniors, under‑16s or groups, as well as occasional special offers or early‑bird deals. Comparing prices across reputable outlets and checking for off‑peak or group discounts can help you secure better value tickets for the Cardiff dates.

Which seats offer the best value for money at the New Theatre?

Many theatregoers find that mid‑priced seats in the stalls or front of the circle provide a strong balance of view and price, avoiding the highest‑priced central rows. If you are on a tighter budget, rear or side sections can be cheaper while still giving a clear view of the stage for this high‑energy, music‑driven show.

Where can I check Cardiff showtimes and availability before booking?

Up‑to‑date showtimes and remaining availability for the 1–6 June 2026 run are listed on Cardiff theatre listings and major ticket pages for The Rocky Horror Show. Before buying, confirm the date, start time and seat location for your chosen performance so your tickets match your travel plans and budget.
