Two Strangers and Oedipus among UK shows nominated in 2026 Outer Critics Circle Awards
The 2026 Outer Critics Circle Awards nominations have been announced recognising outstanding achievements on and off-Broadway. UK-originated productions including Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) and Oedipus feature prominently, signalling transatlantic theatrical crossover.
The Outer Critics Circle revealed its list of nominees spanning musicals, plays, and revivals from Broadway and off-Broadway productions. Leading the nominations with 11 nods is the new Broadway musical The Lost Boys, closely followed by the two-person off-Broadway musical Mexodus with 10.
Several shows that began life in the UK have secured nominations, including Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), Giant, Oedipus, The Baker’s Wife, and Punch. Two Strangers, in particular, has been recognised in multiple categories including Outstanding New Broadway Musical and Outstanding Book of a Musical, credited to Jim Barne and Kit Buchan.
Oedipus was nominated in the Outstanding New Broadway Play category and also recognised for acting with Lesley Manville nominated for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Broadway Play. The show’s director, Robert Icke, earned a nod for Outstanding Direction of a Play.
The awards also highlight individual performance with Sam Tutty from Two Strangers nominated for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Broadway Musical. Other nominated UK shows include The Baker’s Wife, which received praise for its Outstanding Revival of a Musical and acting nominations.
Broadway staples such as Death of a Salesman and Ragtime also feature strongly across multiple categories. Notable creatives receiving multiple nominations include Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson for Mexodus and Jim Barne and Kit Buchan for Two Strangers.
The Outer Critics Circle Awards serve as an influential barometer for the Broadway and off-Broadway season, celebrating new works alongside revivals. This year’s list illustrates a rich exchange of theatre across the Atlantic with British-originated productions gaining significant recognition.
