Unicorn Theatre reveals 20th anniversary season with Bank of England partnership
The Unicorn Theatre in London has unveiled its 20th anniversary season, featuring seven new productions and the Bank of England’s first ever stage partnership. The diverse programme focuses on financial literacy, cultural storytelling, and innovative theatrical forms for children.
Marking two decades at its Tooley Street venue, the Unicorn Theatre opens its 2026–27 season with Pocket Money, an interactive show for children aged seven and above. Created by Nigel Barrett and Louise Mari, the production explores financial literacy and decision-making, supported by the Bank of England and the Aberdeen Group Charitable Trust. Notably, 40 per cent of tickets for Pocket Money will be priced at just £3.
Home Song, created by Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong, returns following a previous run and targets children aged six to 18 months. The production is a musical and performative journey between Kumasi and London. For the festive season, Santa’s First Christmas runs from November 14 2026 to January 3 2027, adapted by the theatre’s artistic director James Bagshaw from a book by Mac Barnett and Sydney Smith. It marks the Unicorn’s first venture into dance theatre, directed and choreographed by Bagshaw with music and lyrics by Harry Blake.
Also returning is Huddle, by Filskit Theatre and directed by Sarah Shephard. Designed for children aged one to four, it follows a penguin family and has been reimagined for this run from November 27 to January 3. Early next year, the theatre will present The Last Wild, adapted by Jude Christian from Piers Torday’s novel and directed by Bagshaw. The production is a co-production with the National Theatre and will tour nationally after its London run.
Alongside The Last Wild is Creatures, a new devised piece by Jo Tyabji for three- to six-year-olds. The show focuses on the natural world through puppetry and music and runs from February 5 to March 14 2027. The season closes with The Magic Callaloo, adapted and written by Trish Cooke and directed by Robin Belfield. The production reimagines Rapunzel and incorporates stories of escape from slavery, running from March 19 to April 18 2027.
The Unicorn Theatre will also launch Critical Conversations, a series of events for children and families beginning in spring 2027. Additionally, the organisation announced a new partnership with Imaginate, linked to the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, with further details to be confirmed.
