Watermill Theatre announces full cast for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang revival

The Watermill Theatre has revealed the full casting and creative team for its 2026 summer production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, highlighting actor-musician Christian Edwards as Caractacus Potts and Lydia Louise making her professional debut as Truly Scrumptious. The revival promises a blend of onstage musical performance and immersive theatre.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will run at the Watermill Theatre from 26 May to 13 September 2026, with a national press night scheduled for 4 June. Directed by artistic director Paul Hart, the production will transform the theatre and its surrounding grounds in line with the venue’s recent summer show format.

The story follows the eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, played by Christian Edwards, and his children Jeremy and Jemima, alongside Truly Scrumptious, embarked on a magical adventure featuring the iconic flying car. Lydia Louise takes on the role of Truly Scrumptious in her professional debut. Mark Curry appears as Grandpa Potts, while Susannah van den Berg plays the Childcatcher.

Other key cast members include Samuel Morgan-Grahame as Baron Bomburst, Mairi Ikegami as Baroness Bomburst, and Sam Pay performing dual roles as Boris and Lord Scrumptious. Actor-musicians Alexander Zane and Reuben Greeph serve as Goran and Toymaker while also handling onstage musical direction duties.

The children Jeremy and Jemima will be shared among multiple performers, including Francis Adams, Bodhi Allnutt, Elijah Bailey, and Lucas Froud for Jeremy, and Aurora Breslin, Juyoung Chang, Sophie George, and Aila McLeish for Jemima. The Children of Vulgaria comprises a large ensemble cast including Chika Atakorah, Felix Brims, and others.

Featuring classic songs by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman such as “Truly Scrumptious” and “Hushabye Mountain”, the musical is adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams. It will showcase the actor-musician ensemble skillset integral to the production’s style.

The creative team boasts set and costume design by Katie Lias, musical supervision and orchestration by Stuart Morley, and choreography by Anjali Mehra. Puppet design, making, and direction are led by Marc Parrett, while lighting, sound, and video design are handled by Jai Morjaria, Tom Marshall, and Daniel Denton respectively.

Supporting the creative leads are associate and assistant roles including Eva Sampson as associate director, Vanessa Vince-Pang as associate choreographer, and George Francis as associate musical supervisor. The production’s stage management is led by company stage manager Cat Pewsey with a team including Geoffrey Field and Alice Barber.

This revival reflects the Watermill Theatre’s ongoing commitment to large-scale summer productions that fully utilise its venue’s potential, combining family-oriented storytelling with immersive theatrical experiences.
